The blokes a bit of a crank if you ask me, maybe if he stuck to the report it might be better rather than babbling along about nothing, I can’t be asked to read it all & hardly do any report by him
If you want a bland match report then I’m sure BBC Sport will have one. We’re lucky to have a writer of Clive’s calibre, IMO. Doubt that site generates much revenue and he must pour hours into it.
I enjoy Clive’s reports (mostly), and you can see how much effort he puts in to it. Though this one was a bit like that first time the needle goes onto the vinyl and there’s the slowest of lead-ins to the music. Probably more to say about the game, fans and players would have worked with such an excellent result and so many pivot points to talk about. Still - more better than not. He’ll be busy this year with his prose that’s for certain.
It’s all subjective, down to personal taste, and thank goodness no one is trying to tell me what I’m allowed to like and dislike….are they? Clive certainly puts the hours in, and I suspect it’s something of a relief to let himself go when writing these and play with words and syntax and demonstrate his deep knowledge of the club and its history since he’s been going to games, compared to the restrictions of his day job writing. Clearly a lot of people enjoy his reports, so all is good.
Perhaps it's because I can't get to as many games at the moment, but I love them. Gives me a sense of the mood, atmosphere and emotions that I just don't get from highlights or even watching a whole game back. They are long, yes, but with a cup of tea on a Monday morning it's one of the best 30 minutes of my week.
..but the bit that holds most true in the whole report was "we all switch our weight from right foot to left and lean forward" As the ball came across to Uncs. The whole crowd received the ball, trapped the ball. And put it in the roof of the net together. That goal was scored by 2001 people in unison. Love my team
