I think we all accept the odd wayward clearance (been guilty of plenty myself during my ahem "career") but the problem was as much to do with the lack of power and distance. His clearances were 'hanging' and inviting the defence to attack the ball when what we needed is a bit more of the Schmeichel style howitzers (which he is somewhat capable of, if not quite so powerful) to turn defenders and get our boys running onto. The criticism, in this sense, is totally justified.
I was thinking the same Fez. It seems to be the fashion for 'keepers to slice across the ball they are clearing to make it go out wide and hang over the touchline, trouble is it gives their midfield or defence time to prepare and with our smaller players, easily out jump them. The art of the low and fast clearence seems to have been lost. I do have a lot of sympathy for Bond as he faced a lot of back passes and little movement from the jittery defence - but having the ability to really clear it at times would have given him some breathing time.
