Outstanding and unlike Rooneys he actually hit it with his foot ! Good goal by the United youngster in reply as well
Yeah, I was unhappy with Routledge last season as well - and he was lucky that Montero couldn't stay fit to get game-time at all. But I agree with FFS that he has to stay as cover until he's replaced properly. But I can't help but feel that we should have replaced him in the summer just gone. A winger was always top of my wishlist this summer but apart from Hoilett we weren't really linked to anyone.
Yeah, Barrow is back from what I heard too. The more I think about it, Hoilett would at least be offering a goal threat right now. But don't get me wrong, we were right to avoid him (if we were actually ever interested) and we can and will find better when we eventually get someone in!
yeh I need it, my usual Sat night/Sun morning gig, watching 3 matches, shame the middle one was a disaster this time
The right hand side was a barren desert yesterday. So often a scene of great passing combinations betweenr Dyer and Rangel, the partnership between Naughton and Ayew was non existent. Ayew stays inside for long periods so Naughton is stranded out there on his own.
the words "so often" mean naught now, Dyer was crap all last season as was Rangel when he had the odd chance
Dai do you actually watch the game????? Watford could have easily scored 3 goals and any other prem team would have.
Leaving Barrow out of it at the moment we really only have one winger i.e. Montero. Routledge is no longer as effective as a winger but is better running across and behind the defence to pick up through balls. Ayew is more of an old fashioned goal scoring inside forward. The old fashioned inside forward also laid on chances for other players as well. Sounds familiar. As players get older they lose their pace to get outside their defenders and I think this is happening to Routledge. Back to Barrow he has the pace and can cross the ball but whether he has the trickery to go past a fullback we don't know yet. Perhaps it is time to find out.
Time to give Barrow a go imo. He's shown great promise and we need someone who can not only beat a man but keeps trying when it doesn't come off. I like him a lot from what I've seen. But I thought everyone was poor yesterday. Siggy in particular has continued his run of terrible form and looks like he's trying too hard. Fernandez was just awful from start to finish. Anyone who says our defence looked good yesterday must have been pissed. We couldn't have complained if we'd lost that by at least three goals. Credit to Watford though. The way to play us is press press press and they did that very effectively.
As did WBA , Leicester, Palace away last season .Theres a lot to be said for passing and moving the ball quickly none of which we did yesterday and certainly not when we had a man advantage .
If Fans expect us to play brilliantly every game then they will be very disappointed as that never happens for any team. It was one of them games where nothing clicked and you can be sure as eggs are eggs we will have a number of them during the season and as sure as eggs are eggs again someone will get slaughtered on here whilst forgetting all the good things that have put us up in the top half by beating some good teams and drawing the others. All that goes out the window as we now focus on how bad the team is with he should be dropped or monk made the wrong choice blah blah blah....Get real ffs we are not going to win them all and we wont play Brilliantly every game and finally the opposition may have done their homework and had a better game plan that worked. That's the nature of the game as there is only a *** paper between all premiership sides, that's why we are all in the top league and that's why we can all beat each other on the day.....
