As expected, Watford defeated rock-bottom Huddersfield on the road in their last league match, with the team climbing to seventh position in the standings. The Hornets do not want to stop now and they are on a quest to overtake Everton who took away that seventh place, pushing Watford down a place with their win over Man. Utd.

The Saints, on the other hand, experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-1 loss to Newcastle United and, as a result, they are still only five points clear of the relegation zone. Southampton are desperate to grab something from Tuesday’s game.

The last time these sides met was in the reverse fixture back in November, where the now departed Manolo Gabbiadini opened the scoring for the hosts in the 20th minute, before Jose Holebas netted an 82nd minute equaliser to deny Mark Hughes' side victory and prompt Charlie Austin to go on a memorable rant about the match officials.

Gerard Deulofeu has been directly involved in 10 goals in his last nine appearances in all competitions for Watford (eight goals and two assists). Electric.

Javi Gracia will have an increased number of attacking options to choose from tomorrow night after Roberto Pereyra and Adalberto Peñaranda were declared fit to face Southampton.

Yes. Sema was OK.. But Pererya brings more of a threat when on form.. And with this the second of three games in a week we need a little rotation IMO..

and prompt Charlie Austin to go on a memorable rant
    --------------------

And rightly so. That goal Hooper ruled out was a disgrace.................not as bad as the dreadful handball goal which cheated us out of the result the season before, but still pretty bad.
Think some revenge is in order. <laugh> Mike Dean.............oh Feck! <yikes>

Having gone down 4-0 to Southampton at the Dell in the first leg of their League Cup second round tie, few gave the Hornets much chance of salvaging more than pride in the second leg despite the absence through injury of Kevin Keegan.

By half-time the home side were two up through Malcolm Poskett and Ray Train. Martin Patching added a third, but a Steve Sims own goal with less than 20 minutes remaining appeared to end any hopes of a comeback.

Within a minute, however, Chris Nicholl fouled Ross Jenkins in the penalty area and Ian Bolton converted the spot kick. Jenkins himself made it 5-1, and when Charlie George hit the bar with a late screamer the game went into extra-time.

Teenage substitute Nigel Callaghan added a sixth before Poskett rounded Katalinic for his second to complete an extraordinary 7-1 scoreline.

Tuesday, September 2, 1980 Just as memorable as the Charlie Austin rant. :emoticon-0100-smile

If we had 30 points we would be in deep trouble.
If we had 40 points we would be safe.
If we had 50 points we could be flirting with a trip around Europe.
