Rather an anti-climax in the end but typical of the Championship. A shame one of Abdi's chances didn't fall to Vydra. Still chances don't win games and it's a timely reminder that next season missed chances and defensive mix ups are likely to prove costly. A couple of slightly worrying performances today...neither Motta nor Layun looked to have earned themselves a place in a Premier League squad. Oh well, time for a calming glass of something I think.
Just back home. Unfortunately we only had ourselves to blame really. Should have got a second before half time, and as others have said, it was Wednesday's only chance on goal. Thought they closed the midfield down well but going forward they were dire and should have been there for the taking. I thought Deeney should have got the pen in the first half and for once you could argue Slav's subs didn't work-think I'd have brought on Forestieri for some trickery around the area where the final ball was missing. Think we also missed Guedioura from the start. Such a shame they couldn't gave just cleared their lines for the goal. But we shouldn't forget the achievement just because of this. Even this time just over a week ago, let alone 9 months ago we'd have taken second. Got on the pitch (well after the game finished!) which was fun albeit with a slightly flatter atmosphere than there should have been. Still, what a season and what an achievement and we can all just look forward now!
Odd ref Probert, seems to stand back and not get involved. Haven't seen a replay but thought the Deeney pen was a good shout. And there's always Bournemouth away of course...
Ditto..... but a great day out and we also strolled on the pitch.... much better than my mossy lawn.... at the end... Just one of those games... .we could have scored 3 or 4 but there you go... and I don't begrudge Bournemouth..... and glad to see Brentford in the play offs... Just arrived back here ..... been out 13 hours and driving for over 7 of them! Time for some vino tinto.... enjoy
Over time there has been comment from some older, or should I say some approaching the middle years, of how in times gone past players and fans would get on the same bus and travel to a game. Today Troy said this about the fans at Watford:- “It’s been a special bond, but at the end of the day I think they realise that we’re human beings,” he said. “I think the notion now of footballers is that they’re a million miles from reality, and obviously we’re not, so they’re starting to feel a bond with us." I doubt that fans at some of the larger clubs have those feelings about some of their super stars, but with our "small family club" is this just possible?
At the awards evening last year, which incidentally came in the middle of the well publicised players revolt, Troy Deeney was the last player to leave, this after visiting every table to speak to all and sundry. Whether or not his earlier 'holiday' has made him especially appreciative of the support he has subsequently received but having met him several times he comes across as a thoroughly decent guy.
his programme notes were fantastic today. I love the fact it is not just his actions on the pitch that are shooting him up the charts in the WFC hall of fame
I am really glad you dropped in. I wanted to say thank you to your team for making sure our superb travelling support don't have to foot the expense of vaccinations to visit your hell hole next season.
Well it could be worse - might have lost 3-0 at home and gone out of the play-offs.. Was a flat 2nd half on and off the pitch - should've have wrapped it up in the 1st half and maybe should've had a penalty? Typical of the Championship really - remember only last week we benefited from late goals. "Clem" from the FLS was there I noticed - always seems to be a bad luck charm. Doesn't take the shine too much off a great and successful season - afterall there will be a few others clubs looking at us with green envy. BTW Come on Brentford!
And d bent missed a penalty when it was 0-0 .How many of us would have taken 2 ond place after getting the draw at wolves I hope we dont have to play them for a few years .The success of this season is because of nick and his family and we all hope he is back with us very soon .
Ten hours later and it's still down to those flare throwing pitch invading quarterwits. Dickheads the lot of them. Livid, still.
Thanks Canary, good luck against your neighbors, definitely the choice fixture, then hope its a decent game between the Bees and Canaries at Wembley... enjoy
