I'm with you Fez, I am disgusted at the behaviour of some of our fans. Throwing smoke bombs on the pitch and then encroaching onto the pitch whilst the game is still being played is just not acceptable - I am not saying it made a difference to the result, but it must have effected the players concentration and allowed the ref to decide to blow up early. When our player could not take that last corner because fans were in his way is way out of order. I hope that CCTV has caught the idiot that threw those smoke bombs and he gets a long ban.
I think the blame should be laid firmly at their door, and the idiot who ran on the pitch up the other end. Their concentration went when he started hugging gomes and had to be carted off by deeney and ighalo! Where the hell were the stewards?? If we'd lost the game or drawn without that and the idiot ref I wouldn't feel half so cheated, as it is, I believe our own fans robbed us of the trophy. Still gutted.
Just seen the highlights. How was that not a penalty? Looking at some of the pens awarded yesterday, that was stonewall. What is it with Probert and Watford? Their goal was a shocker and maybe there is something in the distraction theory. Name and shame I say. How basic were SW's tactics? Hoof, hoof and then hoof again. Sour grapes? Possibly, but horrible to watch.
Weird but at game from the Rockery end it looked as if Kirkland got the ball, most people round me felt the same but having watched the highlights perhaps he didn't. Can understand why it wasn't given, don't think we should blame the ref for this one. As for the pitch invader at the free kick, numbskull yes but why do we employ stewards if they're going to make no attempt at stopping someone get on the pitch ? A total pitch invasion I can understand them standing back but one man and he wasn't that quick !! Don't get me started on the smoke bombs, if the second one thrown at the steward had hit its target we would have been in all sorts of trouble with the FA. Feel sorry for the 1881 guys as it came from that area and after all the hard work that they've done it didn't reflect well on them, hopefully get resolved and they'll all be back in good voice in August
I guess I shouldn't comment as I wasn't there to see the incident and have yet to see footage of it (if there is any) - but SJ commented in an interview last night that Probert's stated reason for not awarding a penalty was that Deeney wasn't running towards the goal. Maybe it lost something in translation, but it does sound weak...
They'll soon feel sorry for themselves when they find out they are banned from seeing Premier league football (live anyway)
Meant to say that I thought the Wednesday fans were terrific Yesterday in adding to the atmosphere. Forr me, one of the most powerful things about the 44th minute is the way the visiting support join in and they did it again yesterday.
It's weird coz someone else mentioned the Wednesday fans and the noise they created but sitting where I do I didn't hear a thing! Acoustics need looking at for sure! Good to see them applauding the 44th minute though, as you say, it's fab to see away fans joining in with that, even sometimes when we are playing away.
Accoustics may be bad - when were they not at the Vic - but isn't it great to be going into the Prem with a 4 sided ground and not having the embarrassment of the pre Pozzo stadium
Not running towards the goal is only a reason not to give a red, it shouldn't affect whether a pen is given or not.
I was just about to start a new thread entitled 'Help, I need tharapy!' as I just couldn't get this feeling out of my head that somehow yesterday was a bad day, it almost feels like we've just lost a play-off final or something which is ridiculous. I was just going to ask what others are doing to forget yesterday and just be happy about the season as a whole. I can't make tomorrow but for those that go, I think that will put yesterday's ghost to rest. Then...my son just came back from a sleepover in his Watford shirt and it made me feel a whole lot better. Will tackle the FLS in a bit and I think if I see the pen incident and fast-forward Eddie Howe I may feel almost cured. Come on-we are Premier League!
