Just back from the match. Where do you start? Very, very emotional day for obvious reasons but handled well and it was a nice touch to introduce the lad who organised the fund to the crowd at half time. A dream start which could have been derailed by Abdi's early departure but the team regrouped well. Great to see FF do so well - his body language betrayed his utter desperation to succeed and his celebration was typically extravagant. Overall very good performance by the team. Don't really care if Reading were depleted - unlike Eddie Howe we don't get to choose our opponents, in number if not in name,
Not a perfect display by any means but some quality moves played with real pace at times. Reading did put out some inexperienced players and they were kind enough to give us the ball back whenever they did get hold of it. But you beat what's in front of you and the win was convincing enough. We still play a lot of square and back passes which keeps possession but sometimes means we have few players forward when we break. For me Motta, Cathcart, Watson and Forestieri impressed but no-one played badly. A stronger midfield trio is protecting the defence better than earlier in the season, though they're still capable of creating panic out of nothing at times. More importantly I felt proud of my club for the effort made to show support for Nick Cruws' family and for the united expression of feeling from all fans.
i did not notice motta much at wolves but i was very impressed with him today our squad is getting stronger all the time . i also think that danual had a good game i love his attitude .he said a few weeks back about happy we are doing so well and not so happy not to play but he knew he had to keep working hard and do the job the boos wants him to
Loved these training tee shirts, well done our wonderful club. Emotional day and a great win. Excellent from FF but a good performance all round. Lovely to be 2nd, we have to hold onto it now, no room for error! COYH!
Very comfortable and professional job done. Only down side was the Abdi injury but then FF came on and gave one of his best performances in a Watford shirt. Very good goals and generally a solid enough afternoon in defence. Midfield worked very well although Layun had a bit of a tough time - needs more time to settle in. Nice tribute for Nick today on and off the pitch.
One criticism is that we took our foot off the gas after we went 3-0 up instead of really imposing ourselves on them and going for the jugular. Five or six would have been a more welcome return. Credit to Reading, they kept going but I still think we let them off the hook. Goal difference is obviously going to be a crucial factor. A big BIG plus was Fessi's majestic display which showed a hitherto unseen maturity. He played for the team, was a constant thorn in Reading's side, assisted twice, scored a cracker.... more of the same please. Maybe the penny has dropped? By far his best game for us, and that is saying something. Motta looks to be a very, very astute signing indeed. All in all I'm actually beginning to think we can do this!
i totally agree with the criticism .And the best bit was the manager sees the problem makes the change then we did not look back .. The owners trust the manger to get us up so do the players plus most of the fans If the bbc think we cant do it until we are promoted its par for the course they live in the past
Very pleasing afternoon at the Vic yesterday, humbling support for Nic brings to mind the saying " kindness should be away of life and not the exception". Thought Vydra has improved so much as a team player his constant running/ closing down something we would have not seen last autumn. Fessi was an inspiration but the loss of Abdi may harm us over the next few weeks. Very suprised at his inclusion in the starting eleven I was bouncing with rest 53 secs into game when he showed his composure to put us in the lead but heart went into my mouth when after 5 minutes he goes down clutching his hamstring. Thought we had changed the team when we gifted them a goal and became very sloppy and lacked discipline for 10 minutes till Fessi calmed everyones nerves. Feel in the upcoming weeks we need to concentrate and help one another when the pressure is applied to us. If we can stop conceeding as many as we have over the season, then we will have a big shout at the end. One down and nine to go the only certainty is nine more wins and only Bournemouth can top us, with their GD looking like its going to be worth an extra point for them if they need it. Lets hope Malky is feeling generous come Tuesday......
This is the Championship and look at Birminghams home previous match/ record before our visit there, there are no definate bankers in this league !!!
Agree with all that apart from 'we gifted them a goal'. It was a poor clearance but far from a gift. Some credit needs to be given to the scorer for an excellent finish I was also impressed with when it became obvious we were struggling, under pressure and couldn't get control back, Slav changed formation, brought on the calmness of Angella and we won control back again.
And good to see that my local Highland League team's embarrassing scoreline against Cove Rangers was hidden from view...
