Or the players should be ?

I think they have to be for European games - the refs that is .

I used to referee teams where the the first language was Portuguese, Italian, Urdu, and where English was not even a second language. They knew! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Sure Sarr has picked up a few key words since arriving !

Guess Capoue would have helped with the language barrier .

TBH Any problems with the officials and they probably get Troy to trundle over and have a word.

Now it makes no sense, Fez:
“I did one match were the first languages was Sinhalese and Tamil... you can imagine, that was fun!”

I was never a referee, but, back in my coaching days I was given the task of coaching an U14 representative side for a match in Woorabinda, an Aboriginal township in Central Queensland. For the whole match, their players, coaching staff and all the match officials each spoke only in Wadjigu, the local language, both to each other and to us. We had little idea what was going on until the match was over, when they all came over to congratulate us on our victory - in perfect English. Their cunning trick didn't work, but we all had a good laugh about it.

Didn't Iwan Roberts and another Welsh forward of ours speak to each other in Welsh during games so that the opposition didn't know what they were saying?

Not a forward, but isn't Robert Page Welsh speaking as a first language?
