Abdoulaye Doucoure says Watford will return to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they host Norwich City at Vicarage Road. The game against the Canaries is arguably the biggest of the season for the Hornets, who have now won just one of their last 12 in all competitions and remain only one point away from the relegation zone. Earlier in the season, following a similar winless run, Watford picked up their first victory of the campaign against Daniel Farke's men and Doucoure is hoping they can repeat the trick tomorrow night and pick up some valuable points.
Must win really. At all costs. Need to go for the 3 points so maybe get a bit more pace in the side and ensue Sarr is involved a lot.
Agreed. We also need a change of formation - the lone Deeney isn't working. I still think 4-4-2 is the way to go, with Welbeck and Sarr the front two. Need a bit of fire in the belly too - which I would imagine we'd get from Holebas as wing back. If he could avoid the yellow/red cards that is...
I certainly think we need to use Sarr as an attacking force in this game. He was asked to track back and help out at the back a lot against Chelsea, and he doesn't look like a big brawny defender to me. Norwich have started a number of games brightly and look good going forward, but as soon as a goal goes in against them they look very lightweight. An early goal for us would settle a few nerves
Like us them and other teams at the bottom. Do well but the first goal goes in against them and their confidence fades. I notice everyone seems to be dropping Mariappa but keeping the rest of the defence. Was Mariappa at fault for all the goals then? Having said that not sure why Masina was dropped really - Kiko has been rubbish since the re start. I can only presume Welbeck cannot be trusted to play 90 minutes as someone of his quality should start every game really. Good control , bit of pace and might get a goal. I bet Pearson really was steaming with Gray after the Southampton game - he could have been a different striking option with Deeney not having a good game. Some harsh comments on Troy around though - sure he hasn't been at his best but has scored 120 odd goals for us. Deserves a bit of respect I feel. Not his fault no one else has replaced him. He'd be the first back next season if we went down as well - most of the others would be off!
Agreed... lets start this one in this way... Pearson could bring TD on later...and he would be fired up... Holebas too has the fire we need... Lose this one .... and... anyone been to Fleetwood?
Problem with this game is going to be nerves , we are much better when relaxed , this is going to be uncomfortable viewing , but surely we have to take the game to relegation bound norwich or we will be joining them !
Daniel Farke has effectively admitted that Norwich will be relegated. What often happens to a team when they know they are going down is that they lose the pressure inhibiting them and often play better and start getting results. I fear this is likely to happen tonight. This will not be a walkover and I fear a Norwich win.
I really hope not, but cannot deny that those exact same thoughts have been going through my head as well. I really struggle to see how we might win tonight - maybe we should go 4-2-4 from the off, shake it up a bit??
I remember we got about 5-7 points under GT after we went down and also under Boothroyd won at Reading when they were going for Europe. Comes to mind because all their fans were moaning about how we played well having not done so all season.
I think that I'll be waiting for the team sheet at 5:00pm - if there's no formation change, I may not bother watching. I really can't see the same team being capable of the required turn around in performance that it's going to need to win this. The Leicester game wasn't too bad, but the last three games have been abysmal. If we don't win tonight, it wouldn't surprise me to wake up tomorrow to the news that NP has gone.
It might not take that long! QSF was about 2 hours after the game. Least I won't be at a wedding this time like when Gracia was sacked - suddenly got loads of texts during the wedding meal! (On Silent) ! I think Pearson sees Deeney as a leader as well as the striker so thinks he needs to be on the pitch regardless. Who was the captain when Deeney went off - Mariappa? Capoue? Both good loyal players for us but not exactly tough leaders at this stage. Welbeck ought to start as he would have done if he'd been fit for most of the season. The guy wasn't brought in to sit on the bench but we knew the risks of his injury record.
