No doubt there will be plenty of interest in the return of Brendan Rodgers to the Vic, so it would be good to remind him that life in the top flight of English football is rather more demanding than the same level in Scotland. The Hornets have actually had a very good campaign so far, with a rough patch throughout autumn being sandwiched between 2 impressive runs of form. That loss to Liverpool makes it just 3 defeats from their last 13 Premier League matches, with 5 of these ending in victory. This puts Javi Gracia’s side in 8th position, level on points with 7th placed Wolves and looking strong contenders for the title of best of the rest. 7th place also carries a potential Europa League spot depending on the outcome of the FA Cup, so it’s a significant battle in that mid-table section. It’s a battle that Leicester themselves are a part of too, although they do lag a little behind their opponents in the race. They lie 11th in the table and 5 points adrift of Watford, but under new manager Brendan Rodgers they will be hoping to rise up the ranks in the coming weeks. The Foxes did manage to break out of their 6 match winless streak in the Premier League on Tuesday under the watchful eyes of their new boss, beating Brighton 2-1 at the King Power Stadium after suffering 5 defeats from their previous 6 outings. Defensively, Leicester still have real problems though. They haven’t kept a clean sheet since New Years Day and away from home they have kept just 4 clean sheets all season in the top flight. Rodgers will be hoping they can make up for that going forward though, because impressively they have managed a goal or more in all but 1 of their trips away this season. TEAM NEWS José Holebas will return to Javi Gracia’s matchday squad for this weekend’s game with Leicester City after completing his two-match ban for accumulating 10 bookings. There are no reports from either side of fresh injuries. please log in to view this image Jonathan Moss is our referee WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD - ENJOY THE GAME
Thanks Frenchie. I like your point about top level football being slightly more demanding in England than Scotland. I remember a few years ago thinking that we’d finish third in Scotland, now I’ve no doubt we’d win the Scottish Premiership so we’ve got to remind Brenda what he’s been missing.
According to info from todays Guardian, apart from the top 6, only burnley have a better points per game ratio since 1/1/2019 than WFC. We have 1.5. If our distribution of games against top 6 was less, than we could imagine finishing with 53. As it happens, we could also imagine winning all the games except against Man Citeh to Chelski (4) and end up with 58. Maybe that's dreaming ? Even so, we have enough to beat Leicester. COYH !
I have a bad feeling about this. It all depends how we respond to the Liverpool game. Leicester will be up for it because of Rodgers.
Just been listening to Talk Sport this morning and their reporter was saying that even though Mr Integrity had professed his loyalty to Celtic over his time there, there were a growing number of fans who were beginning to question it !
weird one this integrity of managers / players/ _ i suppose the best you can hope for is honourable behaviour , what player is going to turn down a career move to a bigger club / money etc , the days of Le Tissier , have long gone , name a one club manager apart from the naughty Gradi ?
Agreed and same with the players too.... I think what got us with Rodgers and also Silva is that they behaved in a way that the fans did not like... Dishonestly....
