I think the tactic is to **** abut at the back until the opposition pushes forward leaving spaces for us to run into at their back - we then hoof it up over their heads and chase after the ball - it's a variant of kick and rush
I saw a video on YouTube recently and this is apparently Ten Haag’s vision for Man Utd. I could never understand what Man Utd’s tactics or playing style are under Ten Haag and it just seemed like there wasn’t any. Are they a possession team, a counter-attacking team, high-pressing, sit deep etc.? Turns out the game plan for them is to play short passes in their own third for a bit, invite the press and then play long balls over the top to bypass the opponent’s midfield for the likes of Garnacho, Rashford and Højlund to run onto.
I thought we played quite well to be honest. It was an open game and unlike many previous games this season we were generally far more on the front foot. There'll always be moments we try to take the sting out of games. Both teams had good chances. We had more on target but I think they had the slightly better chances if they could shoot better. I don't think we've reverted to the 'boring stuff' again, the stats don't show that and it's not what I witnessed. It just didn't come off for us on Saturday and was one of those days. On Saturday we had dangerous crosses, 6 efforts on target, a penalty and just over 50% possession, not to mention that Greaves chance... The overly cautiously games we've seen we've had 60+% possession and usually one or two efforts on target, and usually nothing of note. There's a big difference in how we're playing still, to how we were a few games ago.
We’ve been given so many lifelines to get our foot back into the play offs and we fell short every single time.
At the moment, we are taking risks in the wrong area. Why don't we try playing the clever stuff in the opponent's half? I'm happy to continue with Rosenior but we need an overall improvement at home next season, but I'm sure he is aware of that.
I agree it wasn't back to the boring, pedestrian turgid stuff of not so long ago, but equally it wasn't a game where we went at it with the same energy, positive intent, urgency, bravery that we did against QPR (at least not until the last 5 mins + additional time when they woke up to the fact we needed to score and it was kitchen sink time). QPR and Watford are not that different, and if these young bucks can't manage a Saturday and mid-week game then they're in the wrong sport (I could get it if we had a team of Sharp's but we don't). As some say, it would have been different had we scored the penalty. But the fact is we didn't, and the same urgency / bravery etc shown v QPR still wasn't there after the miss. Massive opportunity lost this season.
Think Cov f they’ve got anything left will knock it long down our wings over our fullbacks and get it in the box quick , they have quality in attack . I’m not sure we can do an Ipswich away and fight fire with fire .
McCann certainly did against us earlier this season. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
That's been the whole season really, we've always been in a good position, but never had the consistent run to really strengthen our grip. The only time we've had any sort of consistent results was when we had the 5 wins from 6 in Jan/Feb, but that was sandwiched between our two worst runs of the season, which cancelled it out and more.
I also dont think their lifelines perse More hopers Overall generally after 46 games you finish where you deserve and weve just fallen short Plenty of positives though As norwich have a cracking attacking team
Not sure there's a need for name calling. There was nothing to suggest that post was even remotely about you. Must have been triggering though, obviously.
Reminds me of John Bercow, he told an MP he wasn't happy, the MP replied 'which dwarf are you '? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Well, both. At the start of the season, every team has an opportunity. The table as it is now isn't massively unsurprising; the clubs with the largest budgets are at the top end, we have Ipswich who are the outlier (there's usually one), outside of them the teams in the playoff positions are all teams that have been in the PL recently. Coventry and Boro pushed for the playoffs, the only teams that'll be disappointed this season I think are Stoke, Sunderland, Watford and Blackburn, who were probably expecting much more from their squads. I didn't think we'd make the playoffs, I had us down to finish around 10th and was happy with that. My expectations were surpassed when we spent most of the season in the playoff positions, we made great signings using both loans and transfer fees, so for me there's not a great deal to grumble about. This season felt much improved and we've learned a lot about the players and what they're capable of. We need to build on that over the Summer, not panic buy or leave anything to the last minute. Getting in early with regards to transfers will be absolutely key, especially if we want to get players of the calibre of Carvalho, Delap and Morton here.
