I wasn't sure taking Deeney off was a great idea for that very reason .. One of our best defenders from set plays . Sounds like Capoue was lucky - must be the first time he has put in an over agressive tackle in his career..
wow! Never a relaxing game with Palace, and this was no exception! Tension from start to finish and the last few minutes i could barely breathe. Obviously i predicted 3-1, hey ho! I feel a little dizzy, being joint top of the league . Isn't life fun, we have a quarter of our necessary points already! btw, i do not like Zaha!
My worry is that we will get a reputation for dirty play. This week it was Capoue's foul. Last week it was Hughes.
We had mid 80s so im not looking forward to the weather for sept when im in the UK (last trip there was soding snow on the ground at Heathrow )
followed by pretending to jog off and shake hands with everyone, clever. I sure refs add on time so why bother, just manage the game - but not for the last 10-15 minutes as I noted before.
Having seen the Capoue tackle on TV I believe it was perfectly possible he did not set out to rake Zaha's achilles. Zaha moves his feet so quickly Capoue could have been bamboozled by his utter speed. 20 years ago in an expat v locals game in SW France I mistimed a tackle that nearly cut the village insurance guy, (very nice man) in half. Apologies all round but it did look intentional, unfortunately I was just far too slow.
I think that was the case for Hughes’ card last week. All angles make it look very bad and a certain red - except from the angle behind him, which is the crucial one as it’s his POV. It was late, strong and not brilliantly timed, but you can see it was a gusto-filled attempt to win the ball with his right foot. Slow-mos make these things look worse too, but the correct viewpoint is essential to pass judgement.
Forgetting our history with Zaha, I think he is one of the most talented players in the EPL. He can do things no other player can. CP would be absolutely lost without him, no wonder they have spend the Crown Jewels on his new contract. Souness is correct in saying he needs to move to a bigger club to win anything.
Derek Payne who doesn't seem to admire Zaha that much, reckons that he is too lightweight and always comes off worse when he makes contact with anyone. His comment was that he needs to get on the weights a bit.
As we've seen with Troy this season being lighter adds speed. Souness thinks he could play for either of the Spanish big two, praise indeed. He certainly singlehandedly kept CP in the EPL last season.
And whilst he was a bit unlucky to be booked that tackle afterwards shows he was frustrated. Is a good player though who would do well at a top club if given a chance .
