He also took no action when the Brum wall blatantly rubbed out the foam spay and tried to move forward. Still, no ref as bad as the one who just reffed Mini Bloother's under 14's game. Opposition didn't care whether it was the ball or the boy they kicked and ref did nothing, while Mini Bloother was forced to limp out of the game. Shocking. No surprise that opposition are bottom of the fair play league.
Phew, as the Sun might say. That was closer than it should have been, not helped by the unbelievable brain-dead in the row behind who criticised every Watford player on the park when something didn't quite come off. Several people had a word...we're top of the leagues for Heaven's sake, what more does the bloke want? I suggested there was an away end waiting to welcome him but it didn't go down well. Too subtle for him I think! A few thoughts on yesterday... Still, the three points was what mattered. Great support, great atmosphere and noise (even in the upper GT stand for you senior citizen-bashers) and a big sigh of relief at the end. There was midfield dominance and some slick passing, if a bit over-elaborate at times. Mind you, those who grumble when a flick goes astray I think are missing the point that if we do get promoted playing with craft and speed will be needed to breach many Prem defences. Giedioura has been class in the run in and the substitutions yesterday came early enough to make a difference. Anya looks like a man reborn though Layun doesn't look sure what his role is at the moment. If Vydra, and Ighalo to a lesser extent, are going to be effective in seasons to come we have to continue to find them in space...neither competes for the ball very effectively. Deeney as always chased everything, perhaps sometimes when his striking partner should have been doing more of the work. He maybe needs to save some energy for when we are in possession late in the game and need runners at goal. A clean sheet is good...Cathcart, aside from a cracking finish, has been pretty consistent lately...but there are better attacks than Birmingham's to come. Paredes is erratic but the potential for him to become a good attacking wing back is there. Hoban is a maturing defender but will not frighten many Prem defenders if he's played as a wing back. So on we go. A good time to be a Hornet fan...
I sat in the GT stand yesterday and noticed Vydra's really miserable face as he was substituted. Joka tried to cheer him up a bit. I'm not sure Matej really understands rotation and keeping players fresh. Hopefully his sulk won't last too long.
What player wants to come off? He loves to play. He had a good game but came off due to a change in tactic so he will be fine.
I had a great deal of difficulty keeping a lid on things as we weren't having it quite as much our own way as we'd like, or rather we were once again overelaborating in the final third which is fine if you're 3-0 but until you've got the ball into the onion bag at least once it's frustrating and dangerous and was the biggest cause of my expletive riddled outbursts during the game. The goal settled the nerves a bit. I do wish people would lay off Layun. Granted he's not having a great time of it but I think he put in a decent shift yesterday and his work rate is better than he's given credit for. No, he's still not adjusted to the pace of the Championship but he does not deserve the slagging he's often subjected to.
It sounds like he was trying to get more thing wright by thinking it though or to see if they will be an advantage
I agree - a few times yesterday he got a bit hacked off that there was nobody showing for him when he had the ball and other times he was in good positions screaming for it and it never came. I am sure it happened with others but if you're struggling a bit it must be harder.
matej did not look that happy when he scored the other week . He knows its troy and one or two others and before he left it was him then troy
That is true but he has celebrated that way before; it could be described as a focused face or a matter of fact face. He was grinning a few seconds later as they came back to the centre. I do agree though that he is happier when he's playing; yesterday he shock his head as well as he went to take his seat. He is young and his best mate is not in the matchday squad at the moment to help him.
Its about what drives them, Some just want to play at the top level weather its as a squad player with a large wage but little game time, Others would take a cut in wages and drop down div to play more games then there is players like doyley and daniel pudil they will do whatever is asked of them up until they are no longer needed
There were several times when passing to him was the obvious move but his team mates chose an alternative. I don't want to criticise him but maybe they think he is struggling a bit. There are far too many fans openly moaning and groaning when passes go astray but surely not helpful to our players to hear this. I'm sure we all feel disappointed but lets be so positive for the next two games.
Agreed. Perhaps he should be having words with Ighalo - who started his Watford career in similar fashion and received similar verbal treatment.
Some players are obviously more sensitive than others as Vydra proved after sulking for 3 months after the Jan window closed a couple of seasons ago.
Just read the match report in the Sunday Times. Was Darren Witcoop actually there? He's attributed Vydras shot against the bar the Guedioura and apparently Vydra shot just past the post instead of Abdi. Paranoid? Moi
Torygraph had one para on it. We have to ignore it and appreciate it will be all the sweeter if it pisses off Fleet St's finest
Yeah sorry I was surprised as the Telegraph is usually ok - mind football tends to play second fiddle to cricket and rugby.
