That has made my hangover a lot more mild. Went out for a mate´s birthday last night. Wanted to get up to watch the game. It´s 11:39 here and just got up to see the scores. Great result.
That was outstanding and very encouraging! Excellent in attack and dominated the midfield for 75 mins. Naturally did get tricky at the end as we tired . Some very promising performances.
Was there and the atmosphere was great Shame about the first Villa goal, one mistake cost us Mike Dean was actually apologising to the Watford players over the penalty, he seemed to be saying I had no choice and VAR would have given it, probably true after the season. before last We appear to have so many options in midfield and attack that the biggest problem for the manager is picking the best overall team
Matt Rowson's match review. "Juraj Kucka.... he looks like a hell’s angel but moves like a ballerina..." https://bhappy.wordpress.com/2021/08/15/watford-3-aston-villa-2-14-08-2021/

He does have a way of putting all my thought down on paper in an enjoyable way The one thing I would add is that as good as Cathcart was for 80 minutes he dos not have the engagement with Sarr that Kiko has, when Sarr is double marked or has someone to match his speed the one two's with Kiko can still.l open up a good defence and we missed that in the second half My other thought was that Villa were not worse without Grealish but gave us more problems yesterday than they did two seasons ago with Grealish So if Grealish is worth £100m to Villa and Kane is worth £150m to Spurs (they did better without him against Man City) then Sarr should be worth £200m to us. because we ACTUALLY need him and on most days he is 50% of our 3 man attack Did we miss Hughes or Chalabah, NO NO NO and Hughes should rot for the season and then see is anyone still wants him next year, if not offer him a greatly reduced contract
Think Dean had a great game as I said before he looked as if he was almost apologising for the penalty as he had no choice but to award it The penalty was the only thing Ings did all game and Mings was lucky to not get a second yellow As in the song from the sixties goes Once our beer was frothy but now it' frothy coffee and (M)ings aint what they used to be
In the commentary Tony Gale said that Mike Dean should get the assist for Cucho's goal. It was an excellent bit of refereeing. One thing that impressed me about Dennis was how he tackled back. Defensive midfielders expect time to decide where to put the ball but Dennis didn't give them that time and took the ball off them.
Just watched the MotD highlights and, oh I dunno, a completely different match. "Lucky" Watford, no mention of Cucho posts match. Sigh.... Same ol same ol.
"lucky" on the rebound for the first, "lucky" on the deflection for the second (poetic justice, that one, more like) and "lucky" that Mike Dean played a fantastic advantage for the third... I can think of innumerable times we've been pulled back in that situation.
But not unlucky for the penalty being awarded in the seventh of six minutes of added time? I'm not even sure why there were six minutes added - but to be fair, I wasn't taking note of any stoppages.
I had it down for at least 5 minutes so was not surprised that it was 6. Disappointed there was more but there was another stoppage in stoppage time. As to MD's overall performance it was his less than even handed nature of the YC's that irked me second most behind whatever it is that passes for the offside law these days if the second assistants' performance was indeed the correct interpretation... I despair!
