19 Jul 2011 07:50:28 Chris Iwelumo is on his way to Millwall after turning down Watford. Iwelumo still has a house in South London from his time at Charlton. That's alright then.
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9146756.Watford_statement_on_QPR_trouble/ It would seem as if the club have learnt a bit of a lesson over this one. Most comment on here was about the Rous and it looks as if that may have been dealt with.
Afraid not OFH Iwelumo has signed; Observer_Owl Watford Observer #WatfordFC have completed the signing of Chris Iwelumo from Burnley on a 2-year contract for an undisclosed fee wfcbadgemoose Watford FC Official A great way to start Tuesday, #watfordfc fans. Big striker Chris Iwelumo has joined us on a 2yr contract. Full details on watfordfc.com And on the offical site; http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2395152,00.html I'm shocked that site got it wrong
Just spotted that as well. I really am not sure about it, but there you go. Do you think that the rumours site is just running a bit behind, or it made a tiny mistake on this one? < laugh>
I just think people like making stuff up in the hope that one might come true! So, a left back and maybe one more striker and that's it until the loanees come in
When I first heard Iwelumo was linked to the club, I was very sceptical. A one dimensional battering ram encouraging "hoof-ball". But as I have thought about it, I think it is a good signing. He will bring a new dimension to our attacking options. We now have the pace and skill of Sordell, the energy and work rate of Deeney, and the muscle and aerial threat of Iwelumo. As said by someone else, (bar "that" miss for Scotland) he will get goals for us.
this was posted last night; 18 Jul 2011 20:39:29 Chris Iwelumo will be unveiled as a Watford player tomorrow. Wikipedia has also listed him as a hornet. Great signing Set to be followed by Dundee United left back Paul Dixon later this week. I htink most thought Iwelumo was an obvious one with so many rumours.... but womder if there is anything in the left back! Seems the sort of player we would sign, decent age and won young player of the year in his first season there. Has 1 year left on his contract so they may look at selling... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Dixon_(footballer_born_1986)
Squad numbers announced; http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2396214,00.html Including: Iwelumo at 10, Yeates 7, Forsyth 11, The Prince 19, Mirfin 21 An indication on who SD intends to start, maybe?? No's 3 and 18 vacant.... for the new left back and striker??
If we went with the old team numbers, the formation would look like; ------------Loach--------- Hodson --- Taylor---Mariappa--- New LB Yeates---Eustace---Walker---Forsyth -------Deeney---Iwelumo---- Doyley obviously loves his No.12 shirt, maybe Sordell wanted to keep 20, but can;t be too far off the starting 11, other than maybe Walker??
the fact that smith and hoban haven't been given squad numbers may mean that SD plans on sending them out on loan
Does that mean SD is looking to play more hoof ball? I thought he was sticking to a passing game...these numbers seem to contradict that...no?
I think the team will look something like this based on what we have atm. ------------------Loach---------------------- Hodson-------Taylor-------Mapps-------Doyley Yeates-------Eustace----Buaben-------Forsyth -------------Sordell----Iwelumo-------------- Subs Gilmartin Thompson Mirfin Whichelow Jenkins Mingoia Deeney All in all a very good team with some experience running through the heart of the team.
Looks ok bhd, my one big concern is having three new players across the middle especially with a couple of them essentially being 'unknowns'. Still, not like we have much choice is it.
Having Iwelumo doesn't mean we will be a hoof-ball team... if we have 2 natural wingers, it means we have a target for when they run down the line! It also means we ave another threat at set-pieces. SD's plan might be to play Sordell and Deeney, and Iwelumo being an impact sub if things aren't going well... it is always good to have a Plan B I suspect he will rotate the forward line depending on the opposition - the more physical sides, I suspect we will have Iwelumo starting
I have a sneaking suspicion that SD wont play them all at the same time, with Bauben being the one to loose out from time to time as we only have the 2 wingers, but have plenty of CMs. Kev- i cant see us playing Hoofball as we only have the one target for that and you can bet that Iwelumo wont play every game. I think Iwelumo is there as a target man from corners but also to give us someone to hold the ball up.
okay Kev...then i feel a bit better...though everywhere i've read about him talks about hoof ball, i was getting a little nervous!
One stiker doesn't make a hoof ball team.... if Dyche wants them to play it on the ground, then we will. It just means that if we are struggling to get past players, we maybe play it long. There were times we did that under Malky too but quite often it didn't stick and came straight back! We have options, which is a good thing.... One question I look forward to seeing answered.... will Dyche have all the players back in the box for corners
they were there at Borehamwood...except for one corner...it'll be interesting tonight, now they've worked on tactics, theoretically. the good thing about so many signings is that we will need very few loanees, which means in January we won't suffer the usual blow of losing loanees and having to recover, which we don't do very well. This is going to be a good season
