I knew last week that the end was near for Ollie when they sent him home from hospital, as that is the way that things are done here. Be with your family in familiar surroundings, rather than in an impersonal hospital room. I used to watch the big man, and he was big, making his way up the old main stand to his perch at the back, and think what a wonderful life to be paid to watch the team, home and away, until I read his memoirs that included a wet February Tuesday night in Darlington, a dreadful loss, and the long journey home. He probably did influence the way that the club behaved towards the fans. Certainly during the GT era he was fed information that the club wanted to get out, even if you did have to wait until a Friday. This came about because of the trust between him and the club, but he was honest enough to be critical when he felt that things were not right. A true master of his craft. A painter of scenes with words. His descriptions of his village life here in France resonated so well with what I know it to be. I am so pleased that the club are recognizing his work over forty years, a long spell to be in the job, but it was one that he loved. RIP Ollie. You were a wonderful reporter, the very best.
One half of a unique pairing which I'd suggest no other football club has been lucky enough to have had - Oliver Phillips and Terry Challis. Both brilliant in their chosen field.
He was the reason I started getting all my WFC news through the Observer even before I became a regular attendee He also became GT,s main man for everything WFC He has been sorely missed since his retirement
Team for tonight's FA Youth Cup tie against Arsenal. Live stream on the club's YouTube channel from 7:00pm
Breaking News Watford FC to be charged with cruelty to children and gross misconduct due to their allowing their under 18 team to embarrass the mighty Arsenal under 18 team in the Youth FA cup
Goalie playing well but we scored 2 very good team goals. They will probably try to pinch some of our players !
All Arsenal in possession but those evil Watford bastards keeps counter attacking and scoring goals How unfair is that?????????????????
Do you really think that the powers that be will let us win this? It's as clear as day they won't let the First Team to up (mind you we're not helping ourselves) as they won't let neverton go down.... Dodgy sending off and penalty coming up...
