Last day for voting in Player and Goal of the Season. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcawardsform/
But would he have managed to in the 10 minutes he appears to get on the pitch with Brum? I see that Rob Kiernan has been playing regularly for them - he may feel that he has a point to prove.
For those older and wiser out there.... have we ever had a season with two people scoring over 20 goals? Did Deeney and Vydra manage that before he went to WBA? The memory isn´t firing today!
Off the top of my head... 1959/60 Holton 48 & Uphill 36 1963/64 Livesey 25 & Oliver 21 1978/79 Jenkins 37 & Blissett 28 All including cup goals...
Watford captain Troy Deeney shortlisted for Championship Player of the Year please log in to view this image
I'd go Deeney just because he's such a star (and my niece loves him - she wishes he was her uncle rather than me) but Gomes has been superb.
Gomes has won us more points but troy is the main man I have been lucky to have had a few short chats with him . He love the fans and will never forget the faith that watford put in him . If we are unlucky not to go up and the club get a large offer for troy then he would go .BUT only if its right for the club and troy and if not he will try and get anther 20+
I went for Craig Cathcart in the end. I remember being underwhelmed when hearing that we had signed him, yet he has been Mr Consistency. I know goals get players noticed (and I did put Troy and Odion at 2 and 3) but I just felt that he deserved recognition. I wonder if Gomez has hit form too late. Many will be remembering some of his more 'dodgy' moments this season, but he's definately won a lot of people over recently. the pleasing thing is, there are so many candidates. Decent shouts go out to: Troy, Odion, Cathcart, Gomez, Watson and Gudiara. And what about Lloyd Doyley...for old time sake?
I went with CC too. TD second and HG third. I just felt that CC has really proved himself a calming influence on the team. Yeah, we still have moments but overall I think he has been the base from which the team has worked off. Tough on Troy in particular but I think he's just done one or two silly things to miss out. Gomes too has had a few downers but his recent form has been sensational. All in all I went for the consistency! Goal of the season was an even bigger headache! I went for Fessi v the dirties after much soul searching (must have watched each goal ten times over the last few days), AG at Cardiff and Matty v Brentford. I am in no way suggesting that they were the best three, they're the three I voted for. Almost an impossible task.
Championship player of year is awarded tomorrow and of the three candidates I think Bamford is the perfect fit for young player of the year for which he has also been nominated for. Murphy is of course highest scorer this season but in reality Mr Troy Deeney's achievement of scoring 20+ championship goals in three consecutive seasons must make him the favourite, I mean if they give it to the leagues highest score what is the point of nominating anyone else?
I must admit it would be very interesting to see how we would be received in the event we win the last 2! Sky would probably turn the cameras off...
