From our head coach talking about Saturday via the WO. "Troy Deeney, who has been the subject of transfer bids throughout the summer, remains and will captain the Hornets." Sannino said: “Troy is the fans’ striker. We have lots of other strikers but this team needs its captain, as a man and as a player.”
But the head coach does not have the final say over whether Troy stays or is sold. If the Pozzos receive an offer which meets their valuation and Troy wants the move, then he will be sold - captain or not captain. Same for any player. Of course, I'm sure that the Pozzos will factor in to their valuation how important Troy is to the promotion effort. £10m might not be enough......
The pitch doesn't look really as good as it did at the start of last season, but here is the reason why. I did notice that it was being sprayed a couple of days ago. http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/140807-vicarage-road-pitch-treatment-1811781.aspx
He can say what he wants - I suspect the Pozzos expect promotion and will remove him quickly if he appears to be falling short - they do not mind switching managers - there is no loyalty in that sphere - and I do not blame them with their model
Still after one more midfielder; http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/11396216.Watford_target_another_home_grown_midfielder/ So we have Tozser, Andrews, McGugan, Battocchio, Murray, Abdi, Munari plus O'Nien and Smith all pushing for the 3 midfield places I'd hazard a guess that means O'Nien and Smith out on loan again, which leaves 7. Really hope this doesn't mean we will let Battocchio leave too.
You do get the impression that this is the season the owners want to push on. All the signals are there, strength in depth, competition for places, it's like having fillet steak, baby sweetcorn, chantenay carrots, baked potato, bacon bacon bacon, Benskins, Brains SA, and Badger Golden Glory all on the table, now is Sannino Gordon Ramsey or aberdeenhornet in the kitchen?
Then I guess out of that list, it would leave Abdi, McGugan or maybe Murray. Murray is a tough one as he is a winger trying to adapy to play centrally, so maybe they think it is time he moved on, hence why they want to replace him with another home grown player. Can;' see it being Abdi so otherwise maybe they don't rate McGugan enough
Don't forget the other 23 teams in the grueling league too! But you are right the signals are there!! Some erroneous reporting from the BBC here.
Time for him to step up to the plate and deliver more than just the occasional free kick from 25 yards. Had the talent but does he have the attitude?
See that Sir Luther is involved. Is this a replacement for the last guy who shouted at the fans? http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/140809-radio-hornet-watford-fc-1813435.aspx
Seems so - Did he ever recover from playing THAT moment against Leicester last season before they beat us 3-0? Wonder if the club felt that was unprofessional? I remember "Shorty" was temporality replaced..
Have I missed something? What has happened to Shorty? Love Loother, but he is no announcer. Need to get a proper announcer in quick. ps agree with the Leicester comments and showing the Deeney goal on the screen.
I read a number of comments at the end of last season and again today saying that the PA system is not working properly and cannot be heard from some parts of the ground. I know that Baz had it installed, so is it really bad?
Worked ok when shorty was announcing. I'd say it's the announcer not the system. What is Shorty supposed to have done? He was at the open day last Sunday!!
From what I could hear, Deeney and Vydra seemed to be playing extremely well together again. I feel sure that both of them think that being at the Vic gives them a better chance of playing EPL football than have a miserable season sat on a bench as a back up player. Guess the Otter will have passed on a few thoughts on his experience.
