Well done to those players and manager for taking such a stance against something which is totally NOT acceptable anywhere no matter how minor.

    Official email: Zola gone:
    To all Watford supporters

I am writing this today with a very heavy heart and after a lot of consideration, to tell you that I have resigned from my Head Coach position at Watford.

First of all, this decision has not been made quickly. I mentioned after the game on Saturday that I wanted to think about things overnight and that is exactly what I have done.

I must place Watford Football Club first in my thoughts and it is for this reason that I have taken my action.

I feel that it is in the best interests of the team that somebody new is given the chance to bring the success which we have all hoped for and worked very hard for.

It is for a variety of reasons, and not just over one matter or one moment, that I feel this is the right decision for me, in the best interests of the club - and I know I can trust you, the supporters, to respect my decision fully.

Last season was such an amazing time, for the players, the staff and the supporters. And I loved that journey. Every minute of it brought a new challenge, different experiences and a lot of learning.

I have had supporters tell me that the Leicester game in May was the most amazing moment in their time supporting their club.

I will always remember having been welcomed so warmly to this wonderful football club, to have been supported so fully and to have been able to share moments of excitement and joy that will always live with me.

But this game does not wait and does not stop. There is always the next challenge and a new environment ahead which means nothing is ever the same.

For now, I want to wish the players, the staff, the fans and everyone else who has Watford Football Club at heart my best wishes for the future.

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve this club and I am sure we will see each other again one day.

    Best wishes,

    Gianfranco

English side Watford will welcome Udinese’s Alexander Merkel and Mathias Ranegie in the January transfer window.

The Hornets had coach Gianfranco Zola resign this week after a poor start to the season with Giuseppe Sannino expected to replace him.

According to Tuttomercatoweb the club’s owner Gino Pozzo will see both Mathias Ranegie and Alexander Merkel move to Watford in the upcoming transfer window.

Pozzo holds a stake in both Udinese and Watford and has been known to move his players between clubs at will.

This season has already seen the additions of both Marco Faraoni and Diego Fabbrini from Udinese.

Alexander Merkel has failed to live up to the potential that he’d demonstrated during his spells with Genoa and AC Milan.

Mathias Ranegie has drifted behind the likes of Luis Muriel in the pecking order at Udinese and would reinforce Watford’s striking options.

The January additions could help spurn Watford on to earn a place in the play-off positions in the fight for promotion.

Ah, after the last few displays at home, now we're being spurned on!

    Messy.

Good news if true about those 2 coming in..again need time to adapt though.

There is an article link on Twitter suggesting Acuna might be going back to Italy joining Genoa.

Have to say it would not be a surprised as the guy has hardly been given a go really.

    Maybe Sannino will?

Love this bit describing the English game.....

It was a radical change, I found much difference between English and Spanish football. This game is not touch, it's balls up, elderly, hold, crash, jump, live, whistle few mistakes ... I do not have many minutes now, I'm working to get more. In the glass I played three games and I scored a goal, but in the league have had little participation. Bad luck is also involved, because two of the three games in which I hold I injured my ankle and had to be replaced.

Don't you love translation websites, with an understanding of portuguese I think it reads better as:

It was a radical change, I found many differences between English and Spanish football. This game is not touch, it's higher up, bigger people, holding, tackling, jumping, more direct, whistle, few mistakes ... I do not have many minutes now, I'm working to get more. In the cup I played three games and I scored a goal, but in the league have had little participation. Bad luck is also involved, because two of the three games in which I played I injured my ankle and had to be substituted.

I can't understand if the higher up bit means in the air as in hoofing the ballup or nearer the goal type higher up, but I would come down with the former if pushed. Curious though the expression "titular". Certainly in portuguese its use in this way indicates being a member of the first team, being "titled" in a way, and playing; probably not much diferent in catalan.

Seen them not given for more, but that's not to say it's a good decision. Angella is fortunate, he'd take no further part in any match I was refereeing - early bath every time. I think the FA need to have a serious look at themselves and their officials.
