also started extremely well and got us to midtable BB!, cant see the present crop getting that high , but time will tell!
Sat in the Upper Rous just in front of the boxes and heard some pretty informed talk in terms of what will be happening at the club over the next few months. Did not recognise the chap doing all the talking, but he was telling a 'guest' at the game that Bassini will use the Fans Forum to reveal that he has 9m available to spend on the ground and that the club will build a new media centre with immediate effect and will then be re-locating the changing rooms swiftly in order to demolish the old barn fully and start a re-build job on that stand. Apparently the club are looking at putting a hotel into the new stand. On less positive news, he also stated that the club have a 3.5m offer for Sordell from Southampton and that he will be moving in January this is what Mark was alluding to Hoping it is twaddle coz if we lose MS we have no quality goal scorer and he is the only one with pace! , it would explain the recent indifferent performances from him though! On a positive we will will have one of the best grounds in L1 !
..... which, methinks, is exactly the point that SD is making! Mid-table was somewhat of a failure after flirting with the play-offs for so long.
We've already heard all that. It'd be disappointing if that's all he comes up with tonight. The hotel has been talked about since he got here. As for MS, i don't see how we can hold on for him longer than January, though maybe til the summer...but the way he played before the Peterborough game, that wasn't such a big deal. The games against Posh and Brighton he was back on from, but invisible again against 'boro.
Not really I dont buy that at all , coz at the start of that season it was the be happy if we stay up with the kids playing ,that was the target , they did we did , everyone was happy
Actually H I hadnt heard the figure for MM with ref to southampton , by the way i copied what Marks link went to , as password was needed and I was assuming not everyone is signed up to all the forums
i think you mean MS ...but we knew clubs were seriously looking at him...and no, the building stuff we all knew about, but MS was just rumours. Probably still is. And thanks for copying
Odd thing to say! We - as in MM - set that target, We started off like a house on fire, exceeding all expectations - then the balloon burst and we finished up on a losing streak even worse than our current one. MM could do nothing about it, yet he was the saviour. SD, on the other hand, has very probably correctly identified the reason for that failure (too many kids too soon) and tried to address it by bringing in what experience he could. Unlike some impatient fans, he recognises that it takes time to mould new players together, especiallhy when the heart of the team has departed. The signs are there that it is happening, yet he is vilified. Funny old world!
The kids had talent and were learning , people were prepared to cut them slack , plus credit to MM his spin was good! This season is all different , the guy on bsad bhappy had it spot on with his last piece about the brighton game , its hard to love this team , we follow them coz its ingrained in us all , but the previous couple of seasons ,I really enjoyed our team , this time round ,its a bit more like going to work , you do it coz you have to!
The point with kids is not to expect too much of them - give them an outing or two and gradually increase their exposure as they show they are ready for it
I think the kids would benefit greatly from some game time. They dont get the same experience at league 1/2 clubs as this league is unique and special. However, i do agree that reliance on them does the team no good what do ever! A balance must be struck and i think that balance is to have them on the bench and replace the "big guns" after 70mins. Imagine being faced with a lumbering Iwelumo for 70mins and then having to deal with Massey. Or being peppered by Forsyth and then being pulled left right and center by Whichelow. The fresh legs would make a huge difference in the final 3rd of a match.
I am still in the camp of giving SD the whole season to find out where we are! He is still trying to get the team to gel, yes there have been wholesale changes which were needed as SAF said " You don't get anywhere with kids". We needed the kids last year as there was not the money to bring anyone in and yes they did perform, but a whole season not a snowballs chance in hell! I look forward to reading about the forum tonight, hopefully there will be positive news about the squad and the ground. The stability of the club is formost in my mind though, without the finances being in place for us to be here next season we will be lost as WFC will not exist if the coffers are not there!
Thats it Leo no one expected miracles with them , we had a great start an iffy middle and a lousy end to last season , but they all had one more seasons experience ,which is worth a lot , most of them had a lot of quality as well! So rather than keep that process going we throw it away , majorly frustrating!!
Observer_Owl Watford Observer Laurence Bassini has apparently pulled out of the fans' forum RT @Manic_Mundy: baz has pulled out of the forum due to ill health! #WatfordFC
Ignoring the squad management situation, I think Bond and Massey have been handled perfectly. For a young goalkeeper it's all about getting a taste of first team football at the highest level that'll take a risk on a teenager, and for a striker it's about getting used to pressure and scoring a couple of goals. In an ideal world Thompson would be getting a few games here, but the reality is that we have three right backs, and of those three he stood to gain the most by going on loan. My only major gripe is Whichelow. I think giving him a couple of games would have been a good opportunity, and could easily have coincided with when we might have wanted to take Forsyth out of the frame for a couple of weeks.
