Hamer 6 - didn't do much. Pissed me off a lot with his constant moaning at other plays. Moaned at Green at one point when he'd done nothing whatsoever wrong. Green let him know his thoughts.

Solly 5 - poorest performance I've seen from him since he's come. Gave away possession needlessly on a number of occasions and didn't seem to be communicating much with other players. On the plus side, he strangely seems to get forward a lot more when playing LB and put in some decent crosses (even using his left foot pretty frequently).

Cort 6 - typical Cort performance really, great in the air, not great accuracy with his feet but did little wrong.

Morrison 6.5 - very solid and distributed the ball well, but let the atmosphere and his temper get the better of him on a couple of occasions, making a few silly challenges.

Wilson 6 - didn't deserve the abuse he got from the fans. He's being made a scapegoat, and few seem to appreciate how good his tackling is and how well he links up with Green/goes forward. Did lose the ball on a few occassions and wasn't great in the air, but did a lot more than Solly who's become enough of a cult-hero to seemingly be immune from criticism.

Green 6.5 - wasn't as effective as in previous games but still played very very well. Put in some great crosses and got into good positions.

Stephens 5 - struggled to give him a numerical rating. Misplaced a few passes, on a number of occassions he didn't seem aware that the ball was right in front of him and didn't communicate well with team-mates. Did however pass the ball around very well (including a truly sublime through-ball for the goal) and got into good positions.

Hollands 5.5 - seemed pretty anonymous throughout, but made some decent passes and crosses.

Kerkar 5.5 - yet again, showed brilliant close control and skill, yet too one-paced and can't cross.

BWP 6 - didn't get many direct chances and (through no fault of his own) wasn't in the right positions to get many chances.

Fuller 6.5 - brilliantly taken goal and some great tackling and link-up play. Not as good in the air as he should be for his height though, and at times struggled to control the simplest of passes.

Subs:

Pritchard 4 - perhaps a harshly low rating but by this point I was far too pissed off. The completely wrong type of player to bring on when we're desperate for a goal. Don't blame him for being ineffective when he came on because it was a poor substitution to make.

Hulse 6 - early signs are promising, dominant in the air and some good link up play.



I can't fault any of the players for their efforts, they really tried their hardest but just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.

The antics of many Watford players were atrocious, haven't seen such a bunch of divers and cheats since we dropped down from the Premier League, yet at times their time-wasting brought about reminiscences of Tranmere as opposed to Man Utd.

The referee didn't have a clue. Only good decisions all night were Morrisons booking (contrary to the reaction of the majority of fans, he went for the ball and got nowhere near it) and their players yellow/red.

Still furious.
 
Wilson our man of the match got undeserved abuse tackled well got forward well crossed well missed one half chance and gave the ball away about twice some people just don't seem to be at the same game as me
 
Tonight was a depressing experience down at the Valley, the Boo boys made an appearance at the end for the first time in ages. We simply had no imagination, high balls in to the box, either too high or more often than not way too long. Our dead ball play was shockingly poor, don't we practice between games ? We play nice football in safe areas but last 3rd of the pitch not an idea between them what to do. Green was poor tonight, Hamer had an easy evening, (other than the goals) but yes he does go off the deep end at the slightest excuse. BWP I feel for him, he tries but its not working. Perhaps a rest is called for. I agree with Miketyson, Watford know how to "play the game" time wasting was brilliant, the falling over & sly shoves were effective. The ref did not get to grips with that, think he felt he'd done his part with the sending off. The subs did nothing, why CP brings on Pritchard is beyond me. No panic yet, but its going to be a very long season based on the start we've had so far.

I agree entirely MT, the fans need a scapegoat when we start to lose games. Compare Wilson to our last scapegoat (who incidentally played at RB too) and I know for a fact which one I'd prefer.

I think he also suffers from peoples pre-conceptions. Had we signed him from Fulham rather than Stevenage, the fans would probably be singing his name every game.
 
Leaving the ground I actually heard someone say BWP is league 2 standard at best....idiot his touch at times is sublime as for Wilson I agree it's the Stevenage thing the replacing wiggins and playing right back ahead of solly credit where credits due Wilson did well tonight end of
 
Sorry lads :emoticon-0105-wink: If you can't beat a team who have 10 men for 45 minutes (which should never have happened as even Charlton fans were saying it was a trip with no protest for a pen, not a dive.......) well you can only blame yourselves.

Obviously, there was some fouls, time wasting... every team, including Charlton, would do the same in that situation. Charlton weren't angels either, you put in some cynical fouls (we had 2 yellows for fouls, same as you, so obviously we weren't that bad). If it comes down to diving.. well... I don't think there was any. Forestieri goes down easily, but that's exaggeration on fouls, not a dive.

As a whole, the first half was pretty even. Quite a sloppy half in terms on keeping the ball but both teams had some spells, Watford perhaps edging it.... but then I'm biased. 2nd half obviously Charlton would get more of the ball, we had 10 men, but you just put crosses in which we dealt with very well.... though there were a few close ones. If we were going to win it would be from a set piece... and it was a good one at that. We still managed to end up with 51% possession somehow....

It's a tough league.... Charlton seem like a decent side.... just didn't have a standout, class player to make the difference. Good luck rest of the season...
 
Sorry mate but which Charlton fans have said it was clear he slipped? I've certainly seen/heard nobody say such a thing. Your lad was already being booed for 2 or 3 clear dives leading up to the incident. In fact there's a thread on another forum (Charlton Life) started by a Huddersfield fan who warned Addicks about the lad being a filthy diver, so it seems he's already built up himself a nasty reputation even before this game. Even Zola's comments (his boots were dodgy against Huddersfield on Saturday too/i don't want him getting a reputation as a diver/i'll have to look into it) suggest even he knows it was a dive. If his boots caused him to keep 'tripping over' against Huddersfield too then he would have worn different ones tonight. I'm sure he doesn't only own one pair.

You're right though, failing to score in 45 minutes against 10 men (or was it 11? Hmm) is pretty poor.
 
Sorry to push the point, but even on the match thread on the Watford page, its universally agreed that the lad not only dived tonight, but that he has a habit of doing so.

I don't accept the diving thing, glad he was sent off. Given my location I am only going on comments from others. Anyone who dives should be fined/banned/shot. Sounds like we robbed 3 points, good. We feel we've been robbed a few times too.

Well, still gutted, and will be for a while. When you've got 45 minutes to win against ten me, it's exquisitley frustrating to lose 2-1. Still, we did'nt put the ball in the net. The positive side is that we played well (ish) by most accounts, but the negatives include the fans getting on the players backs, a low position in the league which will touch confidence, and an inability to convert possession into clear chance and goals.
 
Probably the stupidest sending off ever. Yellow card for sanding three yards in front of a free kick then (let's be honest) a really rubbish dive.

Not sure if they defended well or we were poor in the box. Whenever we shot it hit someone and came back.

Wilson had a good game. I wouldn't play him though be because I think solly is a better rb and the combo of solly and evina would be more effective! But he did have a good game!

Hollands was poor, too slow in switching play.

Bwp struggles to get into the game

Green was ineffective.

Finally, how good a signing does fuller look! If he stays fit I think he could be worth around 10 points this season.

But it means little to CAFC what this player does. We need to be more ruthless. It's becoming a nasty habit that we play well but don't get the points. We need to make sure we win our home games - especially against teams that I expect will be around us at the end of the season. I still feel frustrated about last night, but also feel no need to panic. Any defeat hurts, but I still think we are competitive and believe we will go on to pick up points at home and away.

It's just going to be a tough, very tough season. I think the players will relish it rather than lose confidence though.

Let me go on record and say I really hate some of our fans. What kind of morons take to twitter to abuse the team?
 
the guy who got sent off deserved it. it was a dive. i was in the quadrant near where it happened. our defender put his leg out, connected with the ball, minutes passed, then the shrimp went down. nasty nasty player to be doing that.

hamer was flapping at the defence a bit. from what i saw though it was mainly aimed at danny green though. not sure if it was just or not, but he was saying to him why wasnt he available for a quick ball on the counter attack. which he had a point. our play is predictable - everytime hamer catches it, we slow down, wait for everyone to get in position then pass it out, it gets knocked about a bit at the back, then finds its way back to hamer who punts it at bwp to try and win a header.

every set play we get, whether it be a corner, free kick or long throw near their box, we send cort up and throw it to him everytime. its too predictable. the other teams are now doing the trick they used on kermo last year - a man in front of him to block the run and another on him to win the header.

my personal complaints about last night was that solly cant cross from the left. he cuts in and then is too close to put anything decent in. and wilson did not win a header all night. we need a left footer at left back and solly, back as right back. hollands did not look comfortable being pressed. i hope the guy razak has composure on the ball and can pick a pass. the one time we did do that, fuller gets his goal. we're so much better with the ball on the ground
 
Not based on last night, but Hollands is looking out of his depth. I do feel for him at times as I think he fights a one man battle in the middle, but he has struggled to get in to nearly all of our games. From what I've read on Razak, he could well be the perfect foil for Stephens and the midfield on a whole.

Hamer needs to stop this thing with Danny Green. DG has been the best player of the last month, and we need him to be confident. If Hamer wants to take verbal control then he needs to be more responsible and not just shout passionate nothings, as this will be detrimental.
 
So, we are losing 2-1 at home to an average side, a side down to ten men: What does CP do? Does he bring on the new guy from Man City? Does he introduce Waggy to try and get round the full-backs?

No. In his infinite wisdom, he brings on Bradley Pritchard for Danny Hollands, the latter a player who can tackle and wrestle back the impetus.

Absolute dross.

It was a hugely disappointing result, but there needs to be an air of calm. I'll reiterate that we aren't out of a depth, but we just need to become a bit more ruthless in attack. We are undoing our own good work, I don't think it's a case of being outclassed - so I see it as something that we can rectify and remain confident that we will. Not the time to panic.

Sacking CP would be a disaster for the club. He has built this side and will eventually get the best out of them in a tough division. But he needs to be bolder in his decision making and not just rely on the same members of the squad.
Personally, I would play BWP on the right-wing as his running on the ball has been far better than his poaching. I really believe he will struggle to score more than one goal every 8-10 matches, but he is too good to leave out of the starting eleven altogether.
I would probably drop Stephens (shock horror!). Other than the pass for Fuller's goal, he is simply not contributing enough. I'd stick Kerkar in the middle with Hollands and introduce Razak if it didn't work.
I will stick by CP for the whole season and beyond, without a doubt, but he needs to earn his corn before the tide turns against him.
 
Sacking CP would be a massive massive mistake. Even when we plummeted dangerously down League One when he took over, I (and the majority of fans) sung his name every game. He built this team, he brought about one of the best seasons we've had for a long long time, and he 'got our Charlton back'.



At the moment I'm still feeling pretty furious. I've decided against going to Blackpool now (£25 ticket for a restricted view at the side of the pitch and I'm a bit skint). A two week break from football will do my body some good.

I was about to post a response to the comment Super made from Hamer on twitter, along the lines of how he should keep his mouth shut and stop criticising the fans (he knows nothing about our history/he's never willing to admit to his mistakes/always blaming others etc etc) but seeing the twitter comments directed at him and he's completely right. What sort of a 'fan' calls their own player a c*nt for not being able to defend against the best opposition free-kick seen at The Valley for years. Its one of the most vulgar words in the language. Nor did Hamer "cost us the game". He made one mistake in open play, which was him catching a backpass. Nothing came of it.

Some of our fans really sicken me.
