Each position was chosen by a player who was on the Hive so naturally a lot of selections are for team-mate they played with or maybe aware of.

I agree with you on Bolton. Tony Coton was a phenomenal keeper - but we’ve always had some truly top keepers. I think Benny Boy just pips Tony, but I would appreciate it if someone else can break the news to Big TC - I would, but I have a note from my Mum.

Just noticed Elton’s tie is one that was released in recent years and is in my regular repertoire…

My Dad spoke to me about this today. He said it was crazy that Taffy Davies didn’t get a mention.

We certainly had some great Goalkeepers, what about Pat Jennings, Mickey Walker and David James?

David James debut season was sensational. He lost his way a little with the law changes but that was long after he left us.
Best all time? TC for me. Not even worthy of debate so far as I'm concerned.

I never saw Mike Walker play (other than video), Pat Jennings I remember as unbelievable, one of the all time greats of any club. David James was most often a colossus, then occasionally forehead-smackingly weak. Andy Rankin was sublime in my memories of him.
Do you remember Taffy Davies, whom I spoke of earlier (obvs not as a keeper!)

TC for me too. A story. I played hockey in South Cheshire. Whilst relaxing after a hard game against Fodens ( the hockey club lasted longer then the firm) in their clubhouse, I noticed a Watford pennant. Why ? It turned out that GT had asked the great referee Don Shaw if he knew of a club/location near the NW where WFC could use on the morning of a match in the area - Manchester/Liverpool etc. Shaw, who lived in Sandbach - home of Fodens & ERF - recommended the sports club. And, said the man behind the bar, they are coming up this w/e - Everton at Goodison. Well. I went along on the Sat morning, with 2 sons, and a close WFC friend from Uni days - Mike Rance ,(now a Macc FC legend and MBE for services etc ) with his two sons. Hang on, I'll get to the point. Wandered into the club ground - nothing like security in the 80's. There they were - MY TEAM - doing drills practices etc in front of GT, coaching staff, er one of him. We stood and watched. Amazingly, the best footballer in view, with dribbles, passes, flicks , tricks nutmegs, lobs, and amazing athleticism was one TC ! Never spent a minute in goal. Wonderful morning. I still have the photo of GT with the 4 lads that he let us take. Treasured !!

If you want more, I'll tell you about my first - and only - international football appearance. I'm still wating for it to be recognised by UEFA.
