Every now and again I come across old pictures depicting stages in the clubs history. I thought it might be an idea to put them all together rather than other threads where they can be difficult to find. This one shows the original Rookery stand under construction, paid for in part by supporters. There used to be a gate that you could go through and pay an extra penny towards the cost. please log in to view this image
A lot of familiar faces here. A good exercise to try and name them all. please log in to view this image
My thoughts - Back row L-R Endean, Sinclair, Owen, ?, Garbett, Franks, Garvey, Welbourne. Middle row - Furphy, Walley, Lees, ?, Walker, Eddy, Green, Williams, Slater. Bottom row - Aitken, Farley, ?, ?, Lewis, Hale, Packer, Scullion, Molloy.
@oldfrenchhorn not sure if you've seen this https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ld-photos-vicarage-road-100-year-celebration/ but if people have old photos of their own, they're being collected to celebrate 100 years of the Vic.
Ray Lugg didn't join Watford until November 1969, so as I think this was a start of season squad he wouldn't be there.
I have sent them a short piece about my earliest memories in 1950, so did know that they were in the process of putting things together.
I think the player next to Farley is Walsh, perhaps the one next to Micky Walker is Ron Walker and Pearce is in the back row.
Looks like you're right about John Pearce - but I've no recollection of the other two. Is Ron Walker the same guy as the current Head of Media & Communications?
Oh, goodness, look at the gates! I remember those so well. Edging towards those doors, around me the wooden foot stand my Dad had made for me which could then serve to stop me getting squashed on the way out. Happy days.
I don't think that Ron Walker ever played for the first team. I doubt if he works for the club now. The team picture is over 50 years old.
With Bernard Lewis next to him. I don't remember Owen, either, but I remember Lewis. According to Wikipedia Lewis played for us 57 times or 51 times depending on which entry you look at. Owen never made the first team. John Pearce made one appearance and Walker none. There is no reason to suspect that they are not all alive now. Perhaps someone could search for players who appeared in first team photos but didn't play for the first team, then interview them. I don't have time.
