Watford F.C. v Derby County. Friday brings Hornets v Rams, Muñoz v Rooney and 4th versus 17th as Watford look to win three in a row in the league for the seond time this season. Rooney is nearly as new in manangement as Muñoz, however, he has 4 wins in his last 5 games as the Rams rumble up the table. Since taking over from the sacked Cocu and being interim manager for a bit, Rooney has improved his team position substantially as clearly seen in NZ´s stats regarding the table and positions over time. Can Watford´s great home form continue? Can we push for the automatic spots before the others play over the weekend? Are we due another penalty? and other such questions will soon be answered! Watford currently sit 7 points off top spot. A win Friday would put us level on points with Brentford having played a game more. A loss would be a blow to Muñoz´s recent change to a 4-3-3 formation that has yeilded fruits recently. COMMENTS WELCOME ENJOY THE GAME. ¡¡UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU HORRRRNNNNNSSSSSSS!!
Thanks for the thread Mex. Every game comes along and looking at the tables you think this should be a win, but then the doubts set in, and you start to see the possible pitfalls. Fingers crossed this will not be one when we wondered why we didn't earn another three points.
In a boost to Watford's defensive options, Jeremy Ngakia has returned to training following a two-game absence due to a minor knock to the hip. His fellow full-back Marc Navarro recently suffered a hamstring injury and is likely to be out for around three more weeks. Centre-half Christian Kabasele and goalkeeper Ben Foster continue their recoveries from knee and finger injuries respectively - with no timescales yet for their return.
That is an upgrade at least. Strange thing with Derby under Rooney is that they were more known for their defensive ability rather than attacking prowess. They were lucky to win at Wycombe on Tuesday and Rooney himself said so.
“The most important thing now is to continue working hard, make no excuses. We know all the games are difficult because when everyone plays against us it’s an important game. But it’s important our team try to give our best in all the games, and then we’ll see what happens. “The Championship is long and right now we’re only thinking about the next game. It’s important to work game by game and we need to keep at a high level. If our team is at a high level, we will see what happens.” Xisco Muñoz
Derby Team News Defender Matt Clarke was forced off with a knock in the 2-1 victory at Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday and will have his fitness assessed to see if he will be available for selection against the Hornets. If Clarke doesn’t make the game, manager Wayne Rooney could bring on-loan Rangers defender George Edmundson into the starting line-up after he came off the bench to make his debut at Wycombe. Fellow loanee Teden Mengi is another option to call upon at the heart of the defence. Midfielder Louie Sibley has recovered from a dead leg, which forced him out of the squad for the Wycombe game, and is set to return to the fold. Forward Tom Lawrence is still not available after two months on the sidelines with an ankle injury. He suffered a minor setback in his rehabilitation work last week and is working with Derby's medical staff to move in the right direction. Midfielder Krystian Bielik is to miss the rest of the season after sustaining anterior cruciate ligament damage to his right knee in the recent 1-0 home win over Bristol City at the end of January. Centre-back Curtis Davies remains out of action for a long-term achilles injury and is set to miss the rest of the season.
