That's very fair mate. My issue is that your situation now and Sunderland's at the time are miles apart when you dig deeper. Like I said in my post above and further back, he's done a decent job and shouldn't need to worry his job at the moment. But the money he's spent, you should be comfortably safe(safe before the last 4 game I'd say) or questions must be asked.

I was asked WHO was the best striker in my opinion that played for HULL CITY and I stated that Chris Chilton was. I also added that this was when we were in the lower leagues. The stats that you are quoting are from Chris Chiltons appearances for COVENTRY and NOT HULL CITY. I also mentioned this fact in my post and clearly stated that Chris had been far from prolific at top level.. Now, talk to me again about Sagbo and how you proudly announced that "Steve Bruce had recalled him" and then tell me what for. P.S. The best striker I ever saw was John Charles.
Chillo(autocorrect disconnected) was obviously brilliant for us. He was obviously a brilliant player, but when he moved to the top flight it didn't work out, I don't think that's because he wasn't good enough, I think it simply didn't happen for him. I was merely pointing out that his stats in the top flight were ****, but that doesn't mean he was. Sagbo made the eighteen on Sunday, if he'd have come on instead of Meyler, we might well have not lost the game. He's not really a Premir League striker, but he's not ****e either, if we actually went for a result, we might actually get one. I think Bruce has been brilliant for us, but his substitutions have cost us at least two points, possibly four or five, along with a League Cup exit.
Agree with OLM, we could've done with Sagbo's hold up play to keep the ball at the other end of the park, instead of aimlessly drilling it up to Jelavic for him to flick on to nobody.
Agree with OLM Sagbo could well have got us a point with his hold up play. With regards Chilton, when he went to Coventry wasnt that about the same time that he started having a lot of problems with his back and wasn't that what caused him to hang up his boots???
Yes it was but he didn't offer that as an excuse. When he played alongside Ian Butler, Henderson and Waggy he knew where the ball was coming and was there to meet it. With Coventry he never knew where the ball was coming from and didn't settle in. I did make the point that maybe that is the problem for Hernandez (and others Sagbo included) but it is too early to say. Jelly has been thrown to the dogs after what was looking like a really good partnership with Shane Long. He needs someone to work off and to and Abel doesn't seem to be fitting that bill. We are already rumoured to be interested in 'strkers'.
Well, it's all right for us to look back AFTER the event but at the time Steve and his assistants thought it was the best move. The fact that it turned out otherwise is such that they too may have wished they had made different substitutions but at the time they considered they had made the correct decisions. IF Sagbo had have come on instead of Meyler nobody knows what might have happened and are simply speculating as, like you say, he is not of Premier League standard. I know a good striker when I see one and for the life of me I cannot see a glimmer in Sagbo. I know I don't see him 'live' and there are many players that I don't see 'live' but the good ones stand out like dog's balls. I have had this same discussion about Altidore, Simpson and Proschwitz who, I believe, after all the explanations and excuses from many fans, I was the first one to say "Look, I'll say what you all want to say but are frightened to say it - he's CRAP"! I was howled down then but it gradually dawned on everyone that the poor bloke was way out of his depth.
You will always have at least one friendly poster on here as I have followed Sunderland's fortunes since I was a young kid and have attended more Sunderland matches than any other football club apart from Hull City. My 2 all-time favourite English players are Raich Carter and Len Shackleton and I was taken to see Shackleton play at Roker Park for my 10th birthday present.At that match Stan Matthews was an added bonus. My wife says she had a nice conversation with you a few months back. Her first husband was born and raised in Darlington but was a Sunderland fan. She posted with 'Mrs' in front of my user name and has since left the board. She sends her regards.

OK nit-picker I was asked who was the last 'good striker' we had to which I answered Chris Chilton. In my opinion he was the 'best' striker we have had but of course we were in the lower divisions during the 'Waggy & Co" era.
My point was that every transfer window we've had in recent history we've brought in some kind of striker. I'm guessing about 90% of them haven't impressed you enough. It'd be easier to understand your argument for slating our players if we understood your criteria for what makes a good striker. I'm really hoping you don't Base your opinion simply on goals scored and do analyse the other parts of their game too.
I'd say anyone who had a goal scoring rated of 1 in 3 was a good striker, which in recent years would give you Allsopp, Burgess, Campbell, Deano, Fryatt and Jelavic(along with Elliot who managed it without even being a striker).
Again, Sterling, I understand what you are saying but that is surely like saying you cannot judge a professional boxer on how many wins he has. I have never heard anyone say "He is a fantastic fighter but just can't win a bout"! Or "If someone could just stop him leading with his chin he might win a fight"! I've never heard anyone say about a Goalkeeper "He couldn't save a shot to save his life but he's good with distribution and long kicks"! My definition of a good striker is someone who firstly knows where the goal is, can shoot with either foot, has good heading ability as well as stamina, pace, teamwork and can find the empty space. Jelly ticks most of those boxes but cannot do it alone. One of the best 'hold-up/target man' players was Niall Quinn but he had a predatory 'striker' in Kevin Phillips (113 goals from 208 appearances for Sunlun) to work to. Long and Jelly were shaping up to be a formidable partnership. Matty Fryatt was capable in the Championship as was Frazer Campbell. Dean Windass was another capable striker but who had seen better days when he joined us. Allsopp and Burgess were good in the lower leagues but nowhere near this level. Hernandez has it all to prove so let's hope he can do it.
I cannot recall seeing this bloke pay so I really could not comment. I had a look at his 'wiki' stats and he appeared to have belted them in for Kilmarnock last season in the Scottish Premier League (22 goals I believe) but since joining Rangers (a league below) he has only managed 2 from 14 so I don't know what the problem is there.
