Someone went past me on the M3 a few years ago. I glanced across and noticed and he was doing the crossword on the steering wheel.

Motorway speed cameras where there are no roadworks are simply there as income generators. They do not catch drink, drug or careless drivers....uninsured, no mot, phone etc

Motorway speeding does not directly correlate to an increase in accidents........look at places like Germany's Autobahns with no limit......their death rates are no higher than ours

That was my point....the limit may have been set at 70 but I doubt anyone doing less that 80 got a ticket

I know, we're talking about two distinct things here. Motorway speeding and urban speeding are completely different animals, except that the faster you go, the more likely you are to hit someone and damage them.

As long as you don't break the rules of the forum you can start another thread, but we take a dim view of windup merchants on this board, so don't push your luck.

To PM someone, you start a conversation by clicking on the little envelope next to your username at the top of the screen.

Have you realised that the new forum software not only doesn't display posts by people on your ignore list but it doesn't show when those people are quoted? I like that a lot.

Yes, and I have no problem with speed cameras by schools, on housing estates, or in town centres. Funnily enough, I don't recall seeing many in those places. I do recall seeing several on 30 mph dual carriageway sections which were vaguely near housing, on motorways (especially in coned roadwork areas when there is no-one working, at 2.00 am). The only time I got caught speeding, by a camera van, was when I was accelerating from 30 mph to 35 mph 30 yards short of the sign which indicated de-restricted (60 mph) rural road.

Me too, on a row of 6-8 very large houses, set back from the road and the end of restriction sign was just before fields and zero buildings. The police van was parked in a lay-by 30m in front of it..... I was doing 37.

Turned out a very senior police officer lived in one of those houses.
