I’m sitting here on the North sea, and was looking forward to getting back onshore, having a beer. Was looking forward to a new regime at the SOL, looking forward to the banter about the new manager whoever it is, looking forward to some good results.

Was looking forward to my eldest daughter coming over for a few days before Christmas, and my youngest for a few days in the new year.

Then I just got news about a very good friend, a mag, but a spot on good mate. Never really been sick in his life, just been diagnosed with cancer, only a few months to live. It knocks your end in, absolutely gutted for him, his wife and family.
Makes you want to give up……..

The worst thing in the world to find out about that - It took my Grandfather from me and it has claimed my Aunt more recently too.

All thoughts with your mate and his family (and yourself as I know how harrowing it can be losing close friends) - keep your chin up mate - it's for him and his family that we have to keep going as we can't give up.

That brings everything into context mate.

Pass our good wishes onto him and his family.

I think everyone has been affected by this awful disease at sometime, either with family and friends being diagnosed or work mates. I've lost friends in the past and had my mother fight it for the last 4 years (successfully thankfully) and know what it takes out of those effected and the family and friends of them.

Football is very much a secondary event for you and your friend today for sure.

Dont give up Norway, I have no idea why these things happen and no idea what your mate would say but I bet it would be, still look forward mate, especialy to seeing the kids.

As for football, well look forward to it because it can giv you an escape from all the **** life throws your way.

It may mean little to you but I will say a prayer for you, your mate and his family, BTW, him being a Newcastle fan, means **** all, he is a mate, that means a lot.
