Its quite possible that Martinez as never named Baines as the recognised penalty taker, he was the regular taker before JM arrived so they could have just carried on without discussing it.
Baines is our penalty taker, there's no debate about it, he takes them - and barring 1 in his career -scores.

He got the hook at HT for going against team orders.

Shame Martinez wasn't honest about that as well. All he had to say was "Baines is our penalty taker, Mirallas knew that and we discussed it at HT. The matter will be dealt with internally"

i clearly remember suarez in one of his very first games blazing one over and gerrard looking at him. baines and gerrard... bottlers.

he was told in no uncertain terms.

this is actually the one i remembered

Frank Lampard

Chelsea Wigan, May 2010

Chelsea were a goal ahead against Wigan knowing a win would secure them the Premier League title on the last day of the season when they won a first-half penalty. With the game still in the balance, Frank Lampard stuck to his principles and stood firm as top-scorer Didier Drogba tried to steal the ball off him to make sure he finished the campaign with the Golden Boot.

Lampard swept in the spot kick and Chelsea proceeded to hit eight past their opponents. Drogba ended up netting a 17-minute hat-trick including a penalty, this time Lampard standing aside with the team already having five, as they sealed the title.

This was under anchelotti as i remember.

Which would back up what I was saying about Martinez's weaknesses as a manager and lack of control of the squad. Mourinho, Pellegrini, Van Gaal, Koeman, probably Wenger and Rodgers, I bet have all said in no uncertain terms who is taking pens under their watch and who is the back-up.

I would say the real test is what martinez does next. If he slaps the guy down fine. the guy did it..... the hamstring stuff looks weak unless its a real hamstring injury. For that.... just like sahk he'd better be out for 3 weeks.

I think putting ordgers i nthat list is a bit much... i'm not so sure.

For me gerrard is THE man and balotelli, etc don't even try do they? but we will see once he is gone how rodgers works it.

Let's hope they're already practising.

I never said there was a debate about it, I just said Martinez may never have discussed it with the squad so there may not have been manager orders in place, technically. Same goes for Gerrard and Brod.

i think in fairness it doesn't matter. mirallas didn't sign last week (only excuse) he is at everton well long enough to know who bangs in the pens.

It doesn't matter, but see the comment I quoted to see why I said it. Its not undermining a manager if that manager never passed the instruction.

balotelli is THE man.

sturridge is woeful

Wickie is the boss

coutinho can take one.

boro game suggests we will be fine. Gerrard at the start (way back i mean) was a bad pen taker. he was nervy... now he is utterly cold and calm, it is a mind set. he knows all he's got to do is easily place it and its in... thats all he does. no tricks required

any player can be a great pen taker if they are a prem player... they just need to be zen.... i bet can can smash them like all germans.

The simple fact that he got the hook at HT tells you that there was......

Not definitely but probably, we'll have to see how long he's out "injured" for <laugh>
There's no way he was injured.

Rumours are that Naismith and him had to be separated at HT and there was hell on in the dressing room.

Yep I heard they're going to CGI Stallone's face on top of Naismith's for Rocky 7 <ok>

I don't believe he was injured either, if he was then what the hell was he thinking taking a penalty whilst injured...? Or is he supposed to have picked up this injury whilst taking it? <laugh>

Yeah he's supposed to have done his hamstring taking the pen
