That's b*llocks mate. I have no problem with local lads if they have talent - Fowler, Gerrard and McManaman are examples. I agree that a local presence/heart would be nice but nothing should ever compensate actual ability.
Meet wouldn't have made it to penalties in the CL final against Milan without him. His crucial blocks in extra time and challenges were crucial. He was dead on his feet but I think his love and desire for Lfc brought him through that math. I think any normal foreign or nom Scouse player wouldn't have had that desire. You ou can have all the talent on te world but you need other attributes to make you a great player and carragher had them.
Carragher was never a GREAT defender. He had games when he was great but he was not a great player. Far too limited on the ball, wasn't the sharpest tactically either. A good leader and a no nonsense defender, and also the master of the last ditch tackle. Players like Hyypia were far superior.
Well, I guess this proves you can read as many blogs from stat worshiping teenagers as possible and you still might not understand football properly...
So he wasn't good tactically or in skill but he he was a good leader? How does that work...? You either lead by example or vocally, if it's the later then you have to be tactically aware too.
He was up against the best player in the Prem with practically no support from Markovic. And it I'll behoves Carra to call anyone slow.
He was a good leader because he organised the line. But that doesn't make you a tactically aware so to speak. It just means you can get the line to do what you want. But anyways - Carra was a good player. Sh*te pundit.
How would you judge whether or not a CB is good tactically then...? Have you mastered mind reading...? Or are you judging him on his lack of pace and the need to sit a bit deeper...?
Because he was only ever good in a deep back line - play him in other systems and set ups and he struggled.
1.Always in line with defenders. 2.Not giving away silly penalty. 3.If in trouble , send the ball out of play to allow the team to settle. 4.Good communication with other defenders including the goal keeper.
Sorry but I think that rubbish. Carragher played in varying systems for us and was always one of our best player. You can say he lacked ability, Jamie himself would admit to that but questioning his mental state is ludicrous. He made a career about knowing his own capabilities and being a very good leader, something that does require you to be tactically too. If you're not good tactically then you wouldn't be a good leader, you'd be leading the team up the garden path! 1. Jamie was the leader, it was up to others to be in line with him. 2. Since when as that been a tactical thing? 3. Jamie was a no nonsense defender, he used to get criticised for hoofing the ball away too much. 4. Check
