Being interesting to know, I personally reckon you'd have spent less & be in mid table with Warnock. He's a dick, but he knows football.
TF has an agent working for him in his other business interests. That agent sold him Hughes and then sold hughes a load of old has beens with attitude who were on his books to make money. Like Bill Clinton said - follow the money - it talks loud here. Warnock was in his first season. Not given a chance. I think with some cash of course he could have turned it around. He should not have sold Gorkks. to Reading - big error he made IMO - we had a solid defence - since he left - no solid back four. Your build a team from there. Hughes a dour disaster. Would bite for Warnock vs Hughes now and then.
Right to get rid of Warnock at the time, TF wasn't convinced when he took over but with a decent start and trying to win over the fans his hands were tied. Hindsight and hindsight only has proved that Hughes was so, so wrong for us, I was ecstatic at the time.
To me, Warnock was / is an 'old fashion' manager who didn't fit in with TF's corporate world / business plan type of thinking. MH obviously sold TF a complete crock of sh_t on how he would move with the times and said everything TF and other corporate's like to hear. As some of you have already mentioned, TF obviously does not know football. With Warnock, what you saw is what you got. Sadly, in 2012, your typical Andre Villas-Boas type of manager is coming to the fore. Old 'meatheads' like Warnock ............ well, their days are numbered.
Irrespective of what Hughes did or didn't do, the sacking of Warnock was the right thing to do at the time.
It had got to the stage where NW was glad to be going to places like Anfield and not actually going there thinking we can get some points here.....not the right approach, so it was probably right to replace as we were in freefall at that time............meanwhile this year we haven't got high enough to go into freefall!!!!!!
I think that regardless of his propensity to be a bit of a d*ck (which we all knew about before hand), I'll never stop being grateful for what Warnock did for our club. Personally I didn't agree with his sacking at the time, and we just don't know what might have been had he remained as manager. However, I do think that there is a lot truth, and evidence to the fact, that that Warnock was out of his depth in the Premier League. His signings of Barton and SWP show to me that when given money to spend he doesn't really know what to do with it. He just went for known names and once they arrived he was totally unable to motivate them and get the best out of them. At the same time he criminally under-valued the talent already at the club which got us into the Prem such as Gorkss and Taarabt. I'd also add Routledge to that.
