Was he doing a dreadful job? No. But with the money he'd spent - both on transfers and wages (how much have they wasted on Kieron Dyer so far!!!) - they should be doing better. Moreover, at their current rate, they're heading straight back down to the Championship and thus something has/had to change. For about a month now, they've been my new pick to join Wigan and Blackburn in the bottom 3 come the end of the season.
I was surprised, but I guess you look where QPR are and you would be surprised but I expect ambitious owners think they should be doing better. Makes you wonder how much that decision to send Barton off against Norwich effected Warnock's position. Sending's off can have serious implications even after the game, like Kompany's today.
Whilst he comes narrowly ahead of Big Sam & Gus on my hate list of football managers, it is a shame to see people sacked but I think it's clear from his history and the current form of QPR that the guy is out of his depth in the premier league, not helped by the performances of Norwich and Swansea who are both on more modest budgets, have more points and are playing better football under younger managers.
I was surprised he was sacked, but then, the owners seemed hesitant at the end of last season to give him a new contract. I remember there was alot in the press and Warnock himself kept making the point that he had no contract and did not know if he was going to be back. It seemed that the owners felt obliged to stick with him. His signings have, in general, failed to perform and when compared with Swansea and Norwich; certainly looking the poorer of the three former championship sides [I thought Norwich were buying some questionable players - just goes to show what I know!]. I have never liked the man since his days with the Blades and I always thought the Premiership was beyond his abilities; but this does seem a little harsh. However, as posted by others; they have produced little on the field these last few weeks and I bet the owners were looking at Sunderland and seeing what a difference a new manager can bring to a squad [although O'Neil has always been an excellant manager].
The Premiership is results driven. Recent results have been poor, and the quality of football does not match the owners expectations. Better to get a new manager in now with most of the transfer window left, than let a manager you dont trust waste more of your money. No need to worry about Warnock, he will still beleive he is the best manager in the world, and will be in demand for his inane babblings for the TV.
The loud mouthed managers do normally get their come-uppence eventually. These managers are usually the ones that continually rubbish other sides and constantly praise their own side beyond recognition. Realism at times appears to go out of the window. I don't like to hear of any one being put out of work although this was one that was not entirely unexpected. No doubt as others have said he will be used as a football pundit for his outspoken views.
The owner of QPR didn't appoint Warnock and he's too much of a dinosaur for the new money types now in football. Add to that the fact that they haven't won in eight matches and you'll see why my only regret is not having backed him to get the chop as I saw this coming a mile off!
how ridiculous! although if you look at WBA last year when they sacked di matteo and got hodgeson worked out ok for them!
I think the owners were embaressed with his outspoken views. He has no humility, which I think lets him down. Being passionate is good, but he is cringewirthy at times with his moaning.
