Apparently the Mackems' top scorer has literally picked up his ball and gone home.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footbal..._the_day&ns_source=facebook&ns_linkname=sport

"The League One promotion-chasers had hoped they could keep hold of him until the summer, but Maja is reported to have taken his belongings and said he was leaving."

I knew Sunderland had dropped a few leagues, but I hadn't realised that they were reduced to playing by playground rules!

We haven't been mighty since the 19th century. For the vast majority of my lifetime we have been ****, no matter what league we have been in. Not happy where we are league wise but the thought of looking up instead of looking down, and not being owned and run by idiots leave the vast majority of supporters content.

Netflix demanded the storyline of their top scorer emptying his locker and walking out. It was in the script

Yeah Sid you'll never get me holding back for fear of the next time we drop like a stone. Once you've been through enough years with a side like ours you learn that you need to enjoy the good years, laugh through the bad years, and kick your nearest rivals whilst they are down. It'll certainly be returned when the time comes so my policy is, don't be a ****ing pussy and get stuck in <cheers>

Ive no problem with him leaving. I have a problem with us apparently agreeing to his contract demands, 'I want to sign, I want to sign, I want to sign.......nah I'm pissing off.' Dropping us right in the clarts at the worst possible time. Agents fault apparently. Another slightly sickening blight on modern football. Why do we just accept it? Dont wish him a career ending injury, just wish him a very unsuccessful football career for himself and his agent.

Would only comment it's not the Agents fault.

Too many people are wanting to shoot the messenger. Final decision lay with Maja. Agent gives him advice. If he doesn't agree with it then he doesn't have to take it. True the advice might have been given with the Agent looking to line his pocket but Maja is over 18 yo and is the one with the final say. Bottom line it was Maja's decision and if anyone is to get flack then it should be him.

Don't like Agents at all but it's too easy a cop out to blame the Agent and not the one making the decision.

Yes final decision is Maja's but I would have expected the Agent to have firmly manipulated him into making that decision in order to fill his own pockets rather than what would be best for his football career. Obviously cant be sure on this occasion, you can never be 100% sure, just the vibe that we're getting.

Agents are a scourge of modern football. I get what Groot says, at the end of the day the player makes the decision. However when these lads are 12-23 they are like kids. They are easily led. Maturity seems to come to them a lot later now. I don't know how many people bother watching Sunday or Saturday local football now, but it is embarrassing. You get lads of 20 saying they didn't turn up because their mam forgot to set their alarm clock (yes it did happen) and **** like that. It is difficult to comprehend for those of us brought up in eras where you were told in no uncertain terms, once you're an 18 you're an adult, and we expect you to behave like one.

I've said before the agent scenario is not difficult to sort out, but there has to be a will. The FA should basically have a central agent department. Every player registered in English football, regardless of their nationality, should be assigned to that unit. If a player doesn't want to sign up and wants their own agent, go play somewhere else. There should be clear bands determined by set criteria which govern what players can earn. The agents fee should remain and should be paid to the FA, with the money going towards the cost of running the unit, grassroots, education of players, and other worthwhile causes within the game. The money stays in the game, you take all the maneuvering out of it. Obviously if it was universal and came from FIFA then even better.

Fair do's. We've been taking the piss for a while (see sig below) and, as NE footy fans, we know that what goes round, comes round...

Probably his loss, to be honest. He's done well in League 1, but he should be continuing his development with us. He keeps scoring, we go up, then he can take on Championship defenses. If he does well there, the Prem will come calling. But he wants to warm a bench for more money? Good luck with that one...

He ain’t gonna play mind unless he makes a sudden massive jump in development - in theory possible but looks unlikely. Right thing would have been to stay put you would think but if he takes his chance fair enough. Big blow to Sunderland unless they can sign someone as Watmore couldn’t carry that as his fitness will only just be returning. He’d be a useful signing for us if he picked up his development where it was. Bit of Bellamy in him.
