    He once showed me, on an atlas, the journey he made to get to Burma, I think it took six weeks. He was stationed in East Anglia, they must have sailed from the South Coast, through the Med, Suez Canal, across the Indian Ocean and docked on the SW of India. Then a gruelling journey by train across India to Burma. Brutal.

    Aye he was mate. The Germans used to offer up their medals, uniforms and guns etc in a swap for smokes. My Grandad turned down what are now very expensive militaria collectibles cos he wanted to keep the tabs for himself. I told him some of the stuff he described is worth hundreds if not thousands nowadays.

    Well that’s what I have to fork out for German items.

    My Dad served in Malaysia. He has some amazing stories about the SAS and what they did to the communist guerrillas. Seriously ****ed up. They would call it War Crimes today. Chucked out of a helicopter from a 1000 feet tied in bag ****ed up!!
