Yes there is a point that Israel has a right to defend itself against Hezbollah rockets and also those fired from Yemen or indeed anywhere else ... ... but recent events also highlight that the capability Israel has to retaliate is on a completely different level to anything that its' oponents possess (and always has been) ... and that the wholesale obliteration of Gazan infrastructure, displacement of the whole population and completely abhorrent slaughtering of civilians was a conscious preference of Netanyahu and the warmongers rather than a defensive necessity ... and certainly not a realistic strategy for optimising the chances of recovering hostages alive ... that would have been a complete ceasefire and negotiations brokered by the UN ...
Great attempt to label every Gazan a Hamas supporter - but plainly untrue - the vast majority of the civilian population simply wanted to get on with rather ordinary lives ... ... and that civilian population were not given a choice ... far from it.
Things looking more positive this morning with Netanyahu on his was to New York and the UN General Assembly - US and France the instigators of a 21 day ceasefire proposal which will include Gaza ...
Not every one. Actual surveys of the population rather than what you naively think is true suggests there was widespread support for Hamas at the back end of last year and this. They won an election albeit some time ago. As ever, you can’t judge these people by the standards you would in the West. It’s an entirely different set of rules.
Yeah, don’t that’s happening tbh. Netanyahu has gone rogue and will have to be reined in at some point
Not seen it but there was a documentary about Oct 7th on the BBC last night - ‘We will dance again’. Anyone watch?
Yeah, I watched it. When the shooting started they all jumped in their cars but unfortunately Hamas had the one road out of there blocked in from both sides. They never stood a chance. One girl had her right leg broke and bent right up to her back. It was clear they’d already raped her. She was in a jeep with Hamas fighters who then drove her away towards Gaza to obviously carry on the rape. This went on for 6 hours before the police showed up and it was 8 hours before the IDF showed up. Anyone watching that will understand why the IDF took revenge in Gaza in the way that they did.
This is the part that needs a thorough and ruthless investigation, and multiple heads need to roll. Many people don't realise just how tiny Israel is. From the border of the West Bank to the coast at its narrowest point takes barely 45 minutes. Even the northernmost point (Hermon) to the southern port of Eilat takes just 7 hours without traffic. The confused and chaotic response on the part of the security services is unforgiveable.
Netty, 'Our enemies seek not only to destroy us - they seek to destroy our common civilisation and return all of us to the dark age of tyranny and terror' 'We don't seek to resettle Gaza'
He should have said We are fighting terrorism for us AND the rest of the free world so you dont have to get your hands dirty, just as Ukraine are doing against Russia
I think he did say something like that. He certainly made comment towards Iran reminding them that Israel can hit them with the missiles they have.
Not sure what consequences the latest reports from Lebanon bode ... if Nasrallah is dead it's no loss to the world... but... ... it's left Biden, Blinken and co looking pretty stupid and how that impacts continuing US strategy and support for Israel is anybody's guess ... ... can't see how it's going to calm the situation - can only see it escalating ... ... it's not going to make it safe (or safer) for displaced Israelis to move back to Northern Israel - indeed the complete opposite ... ... and finally - I sincerely hope that any arab 'retribution' doesn't include the fate of those hostages that are still alive - but it certainly isn't going to help their situation.
The size and just as importantly the "thinness" of israel is often overlooked when people discuss the security issues .
Just catching up on the news now, then I'll switch it over to Soccer Saturday, can't be arsed to watch any games yet.
