have no idea why we would be involved and tbh i fail to see what the tiny force we could send would do to help .

It wouldn’t do anything practical to help. The USA spend billions on weapons, more than the rest of the world put together probably. They don’t need our help, or anyone else’s.

But the U.K. hanging on to the Yanks coattails legitimises them a bit, in some quarters. I think that’s why Bush was so keen to drag Blair into Iraq with him, though our armed forces weren’t quite as depleted then as they are now.

When the British Empire fell, it didn't just disappear, it became a bank. That what we are best at now. We have a bunch of massive banks.

If we want to do something practical with our military, perhaps start by shifting pensions from the armed forces defence budget and onto the Treasury.

But under this government the Treasury appears to do **** all.

I was thinking along these lines, that the US don't need us, but it helps if we tag along, not sure why, maybe the Americans think as we have a foot in Europe why not?...more from the persuasive perspective.

Plus it becomes a NATO mission rather than unilateral action, when one of the USAs allies gets involved

yea theres loads of military that way.

I went to death valley which is only a 2 hour drive and i was very lucky to see a bunch of fighter jets flying by doing some training there. Saying that though, one of them sonic boomed me making me **** my pants when i was driving as it came from the rear.

There were loads of american rednecks parked up in their cars waving their flags which was kinda funny. Friendly bunch though to be fair

UK military, of course, is much smaller than US, but it still represents a sizable chunk. Personnel-wise, the UK tagging along adds 14% to the number of troops. 20% to the number of aircraft carriers.... etc.

Obviously US doesn't need UK for military help, they have the numbers themselves, but UK's contribution isn't meaningless. UK is world's sixth largest military spender (a little less than 1/10th what the US spends)

I'm surprised I don't see North Korea here as I expected them to be near the top... I assume this is because data doesn't exist, rather than them actually being a pacifist nation. Also surprised I don't see Turkey on this, as I had thought they were another nation that spends a lot on military.

When Trump was elected President he implied (but not too seriously) that NATO should be scrapped because only two countries contributed to it with money and blood the USA and Britain the rest were a bunch of handwringing parasites

Same applies to the UN in every peace keeping mission the only ones in the frontline are USA and Britain, the rest run around behind the lines wearing sky blue helmets shouting please don't shoot at us

Oh, he would no doubt have scrapped NATO if he could... and he'll probably try again if the idiots vote for him again. Equally scary is in the early days of the Ukraine war, he was praising Putin for his attack. Safe to say, Ukraine won't be given any assistance by Trump. Can't count on America to help protect Eastern Europe if Trump gets back in power... or America honouring NATO commitments.

To put that into perspective, ASDA had 20billion revenue in 2022. <laugh>
ASDA could field 10 times more tanks than North Korea.

Do you think he will get back in Milk?

I saw something today that said he won Iowa by the biggest amount of votes ever. Yesterday there was one of his voters on tv, spouting about stop the invaders, then today I saw Trump spouting the same, so obvious he has some sort of connection with the American people, even if that does sound weird to say. I'd prefer them to ditch both Biden and Trump and get someone normal in, but then again have they ever had a normal president in this mad world of ours.

I hope not... but I really don't know. I can't believe he got elected once. Right now he's polling as if he would win, but I want to believe that when people seriously consider the consequences they'll make sure not to let him back. I consider him a legitimate threat to democracy, maybe those secret service agents he spent 4 years bashing will too... Trump to "die of natural causes" shortly after getting the Republican nomination is possible.

Problem is Milkie who is there that the public would vote for in stead of Trump or Biden

We have a smaller but similar problem here, vote for Sunak or Starmer and there are no Statesmen in either party who the world would listen to or take notice of

I think there's a very good chance Trump wins tbh especially against Biden who I don't think is very popular.

What a terrible choice to have. Should have some sort of age limit over there as they've got a serious problem with old politicians over there.

Does anyone really see Biden surviving another term. He'll be 85 by then and doesn't seem a particularly healthy octogenarian either
