US State Department director resigns over US approach

"I cannot work in support of a set of major policy decisions, including rushing more arms to one side of the conflict, that I believe to be shortsighted, destructive, unjust and contradictory to the very values that we publicly espouse."

Paul said while he recognised the "montrosity" of Hamas's attack on Israel, he also believed Israel's response "will only lead to more and deeper suffering" for Israelis and Palestinians.

There are some of them left with a conscience I suppose... well not now he's resigned

Did they not have him practice that script before he sat down and read it? ****ing hell.

Like in school when someone who's **** at reading is asked to do it in front of the class.

I didn't realise that Israel controlled all the airspace over Gaza, until today. I wondered why aid wasn't being dropped into Gaza by-passing Eygpt, I never knew Israel has had exclusive control since 1967.

I hear they are going to let 20 trucks in tomorrow, although that apparently comes with a warning that if Hamas steal it, they will not allow anymore. I'd have thought you'd let the red cross in and let them distribute it.

Welshie and I were talking about this last week. It's not just the air mate, they've been blockaded by sea and land as well. On top of that the electricity and water is also controlled by Israel.

Tbh I couldn't care less if Hamas got wiped out as long as there was freedom for the Palestinians at the end of it. There won't be though, they'll go back to that hellish existence afterwards.

Airspace, coastal waters, sea ports, borders, supplies, electricity, water, medical equipment... Israel controls what goes in and out of Gaza and there's been a blockade since 2007, which Israel claim is to stop weapons getting to Hamas, but of course it's ordinary Palestinians who suffer.

The 20 trucks on the Egypt border are a welcome start, but it will be a drop in the ocean of what's needed. Reading tonight that water and food are running out, as well as fuel to run generators, which in turn run vital medical equipment in hospitals, which are at breaking point. :(

Yeah I noted it was the sea as well, but didn't bore myself with too much detail. As for the electricity I sort of guessed it was controlled by Israel hence the need for generators, I assumed when there was a request for fuel it was for those generators.

I saw something some days back, a video and a document on it, where the EU had supposedly funded a mains water supply to Gaza, but it had been ripped up by Hamas so the pipes could be used as rocket launchers, however, all the sources seemed a bit dubious, so I assumed it was total bolloxs.

You should have just read the document link you quoted, it would have saved you typing the whole of that first paragraph lol

As for food and water, it's already run out unless you are one of the lucky ones clutching on to what you have left. You could send 20 trucks a day for the rest of the week and you'd be lucky to even replenish to anything considered normal.

20 trucks aint going to fix nowt. I'll imagine fighting will break out over the trucks if any of them contain food and water, fook knows how you control it to stop that happening.

It didn't take long to type lol

And yeah, already tensions over access to food and water, which is understandable given the circumstances. It's ****ing wrong, all of it. Aid needs to go in right now to help those people. Of course Israel bombing the border at Rafah didn't help. But at least it's serviceable again now.

Gaza is on the brink of a humanitarian crisis and it's all absolutely avoidable

I despair at the cruelty of those in charge, it's ****ing inhumane

I think that's the work the EU and UN did with improving infrastructure and desalination of the water supply from the sea. As well as waste management. I think it was done in partnership with the Palestinian government in Gaza (i.e. Hamas) and also the PA in the West Bank. I don't know any more than that tbh. Israel also has a very good desalination plant (state of the art tbf) for producing fresh water.

I'm assuming the only reason the trucks have not gone in right now, is because they will need to sort the most essential 20 trucks and will any of them need resorting with essential items from other trucks - you've also somehow got to work out how you logistically get it to them via any roads that have not been torn up by rockets. Finally who controls the loads once they cross the border to stop mayhem occurring, it must be a logistical nightmare.
