yep, some people were always going to get their revenge on those who killed/attacked their families on any Russian soldier they could, it's human nature. Also, it doesn't help that the Ukraine military is full of far-right militia since Crimea.

Only the losers of wars commit war crimes iirc as the winners get to write history.

Yup. In fact the term “war crime” makes no sense, because war itself is a crime, or it should be. Harry Patch, the last surviving British veteran of WWI, didn’t talk about his experiences for decades. But just before he died, he opened up. “Legalised murder”, he said, “that’s all it was. Legalised murder.”

I've never really agreed with this sentiment.

I've read lots of German and Italian - even a couple of Japanese war memoirs from the Second World War.

The war experiences and narratives of those countries are still alive and well.

How is this man revered by so many in America?

And just to make sure he wasn't out of context he later says...

Putin is smart yes, but not for the invasion. The invasion was a pretty dumb idea and probably will ultimately be his Waterloo? But good grief... Trump stop licking Putin's arsehole!

Depends, low level grunts of the winners get charged if it's good PR.

Actually, just had a thought... I could be a grandfather and not know it. Long story so if you don't want to read. Tldr I might have a child I don't know about who would be 22 now.

Just before I started dating my wife I had a very brief fling with an older woman, like two weeks before. (I had just turned 21, she was almost 40). She had a child, 8 at the time, the father of that child didn't know he had a son. He got engaged to someone else right as she got pregnant and she moved across the country and didn't tell him because didn't want to share custody. She was worried since he was getting married and she was single he would get majority custody.

Anyhow right after our brief "fun" I started dating my now wife. We got engaged really quickly, after about 4 months... (We had know each other six years before dating though so not as shocking as it sounds).

In that four months, the older lady had put on a lot of weight and she moved right after I got engaged. (We stayed friends until she moved... she rented two doors down from me).

I didn't put one and one together until years later thinking back "I wonder what happened to..." And then realised "oh ****! I hope I didn't get her pregnant and that's why she moved"... I don't know her last name and her first name is really common so can't Google stalk her to see if she has another kid the right/wrong age. The child would be older than I was when I knew the mother.
