Is this even new information? Wasn't there talk earlier in the summer that we'd offered him a new deal? I imagine he and the agent will want a release clause.
I'd be happy to put one there provided it wasn't something ridiculous like £15m. There was talk of him wanting more money as well as to be on par with Jay & Pelle. Don't know about anyone else but I would be happy to be earning the same as them, he's just as important to the team (arguably more so than Jay).
On Saints own video of the VVD transfer they go on to talk of the media pumping up of Victor and Sadio, and Reed's barely concealed annoyance, perhaps even anger, is plain. And rightly so, in my opinion. There was a non-serious whiff of interest which he dismissed, but the media kept giving it energy.
I've heard slightly differently that the upfront figure was in that vicinity but with add-ons taking it upwards of what we paid Celtic (but not that much upwards!!)
If Wanyama has confidence in himself and thinks he can get a deal at a top club here or abroad, he won't sign a 5 year deal....effectively a 3-yr extension. I'm a Saints fan and I wouldn't.
Is that what Les Reed is actually saying though? He's asked if Saints are going to offer a new deal and says "Yeah we've already tried to start negotiations on that. We've offered him the opportunity for a long term extension. We'd like to tie him down for another five years. Whether that's possible or not I don't know but the opportunity's there to do that." That could mean there's a new offer been made but he may just be talking about the initial offer the club made.
Been offline for a few days as work is killing me at the moment, so am out of touch. Do we know exactly what VW has said to the club or leaked to the press or his agent on his behalf?
We know very little....Victor has been smarter than Berahino and has put very little in print. Ron isn't pleased with him and suggests he could learn from Mane and, even, Morgan....so we can guess he is upset and described by Ronald as being in the wrong mood physically (he has had a stomach bug) and mentally. Doesn't mean he ever refused to play....but RK said he only wanted players fully committed. Les Reed has said he has gone over to join Kenya (suggesting that if he didn't go it would be because of his stomach problems). Also suggested that he'd feel better after seeing his family. A lot has been imagined....we should just give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happens when he returns.
And with the move not forthcoming in this window, I'd expect him now to be willing to negotiate a new deal with a not-unreasonable release clause. Agent gets his payoff (and the likelihood of another in a year's time), Wanyama gets improved terms and some surety against injury, and we're able next summer to get full freight in transfer, as he won't have his end-of-contract looming.
There's no need for conjecture or agreement. There is a video on this forum with Reed saying exactly all the above.
That's the typical Spurs opening move. Insult the club and player by grossly undervaluing him with an opening bid and then expect to pick up a bargain. Are they boneheaded or just plain nasty.? Victor is already a proven leading PL quality player of youthful age who will get better. That makes him £15M absolute bare minimum. You don't start an opening gambit at £7M and expect to be taken seriously.
There still appears to be a "feeding frenzy" in the media now about ****yama, this is going to be such a constant distraction and potentially drive a wedge between the player and his colleagues and us fans....or maybe that's Levy's army of media mates's plan to get him for a bargain price in January? This isn't going to go away for a good while yet I suspect
It would have little sense to sell him to Spurs in january for two reasons: firstly, in january transfer window there is a limited pool of options from which to find a suitable replacement. Secondly, we would be weakening our squad and strengthening our rival in the middle of the season. He'll stay here for this season and then leave in the summer for a fee similar to the one Liverpool payed for Clyne.
