You complete bar steward. The jinx is set now, it's out there. If we fail to go up we're all coming round to your house. Either that or it's a blind faith that we should all admire, and we'll all be round yours to celebrate! I have to admit saying, if not posting, that I couldn't see how we would be in double figures of points by the end of October given the start we had to the season. Oh, and Hammond was not up to the mark, in my view, and I expressed this to my mate just as he (Hammond, not my mate) scored against Leeds. I don't think Adkins sees him as one for the future, but doesn't he do a sound job when called upon? And while we're confessing, I came away from Adkins first home game, that magnificent 0-0 against Colchester, saying that he'd be gone before the end of the season, and we'd be begging Pardew to come back ..... Oh that old Saints pessimism. But I'm getting better. I am absolutely confident that we won't go down.
I'll hold my hands up and say I was cautios as to whether Lambert would be as prolific in this league, thought we needed a Billy Sharp signing in the summer.
At the start of the season I was telling everyone we would be top two and I can't remember one person agreeing with me. In fact, I was telling people last season that we would go right through the championship. Sadly, I never bet on the Saints. In the past I have rarely won money and just ended up being doubly disappointed. My mate always makes bets on teams to win who he wants to lose. He has lost a fortune recently putting bets on both West Ham and Reading to win and Saints to lose. I don't think he's had a winning bet in the past month. He has a bet on West Ham to win tonight so I think they are destined to drop points again. Anyway, back to the original question. I did predict that Reading would not be challenging this year and I also thought Birmingham would struggle more than they have. As to the here and now I predict 88 points may be needed to be top two this season. Three wins and a draw then should do it.
I thought we would finish below middle, but secretly hoped for play-offs. However, I did keep saying at the beginning of the season to anyone who would listen (sometimes in capitals) that we would not finish below Portsmouth. Slightly right there I think
I think it was this season I got carried away and wrote a post that was more than a single line. Only the once I think ^Wow a one line post ^Doh. 2 sentences ^ Doh 3. I'll give up this could be a long one due to it's recurring nature. lol
We were 2-0 down at home to MK Dons at the end of last season. Forte comes on. I say to my Dad "yeah, coz he's really gonna make a difference, we might as well go home now"......
Exactly what I was about to post. I went on a 5 minute long rant about Forte to a mate when he came on and then we all know how pivotal his goals and that match were to where we are now. Mind he has gone on to be pretty sub-Saints standard since!
My mate said at start of season we would finish bottom half with out a doubt, bet me £20. Wish I had made it more now
I said to my mate at the start of the season that I thought we might make the playoffs. He said that there was more chance of Blackburn making the champions league places. Wish I had made a bet with him now.
Posted my feelings on numerous similar threads - felt quietly confident of a top 2 finish at the start of the season as Saints had assessembled a squad as good as any in the division at the start. So far so good!
On one of the pre-season threads, I joked that I didn't mind where we finished as long as we were above Pompey.....and that about 21 places or so would be ideal. Spooky, eh?
I said to my dad when Jason Scotland came on for Ipswich the other night: "He's a bit like Ricardo Fuller was for us. Can be good, but is usually ****." Followed by: "He'll probably score now I've said that." He did
