<laugh> I like that think I will use it somewhere else. Anyway Syd wants the lifting of the banning to work, well it was his idea I think as none of the mods wanted it done from both forums, still I suppose a wum must be answered as one, so will leave it there.

    Rhondda

Just think that's how it was seen mate. It's what occured to me during the 1st half, I can remember thinking the 'comfortable in possession' football was very Swans like. In all fairness, it's been uttered by other Swans' fans on other threads, not just Ivor. We should all be appreciative that our national side are at least trying to play 'decent' football, I won't say 'proper' football, because that would be up for interpretation as to what is!! As long as we getting results & attempting to play with a bit of style that's good enough for most of us I suppose??!!

As for the Swans playing different styles. We're certainly playing a different style over the last 4 years or so, but as far as I'm concerned, we've always generally tried to get the ball down & play ever since I first started watching them circa '77. We've maybe got the ball forward quicker under different managers in the past, but it's always usually been with purpose!! Understandably, spending most of the last 30 years at the basement of league football, it hasn't always been 'pretty', but the basics of trying to play football has always been there. The Swans fans have never really tolerated high & long, or hit & hope football maybe??!! So we've played different styles yes, but always with the intention of being a footballing team..... <cheers>

Jackett was probably the manager with the most direct style that I've seen in my lifetime?

    When Swans are flying,

I'll give in to your better understanding of how Swansea play and I except the fact that over the last few years they have played possession football but it was not always the fact.

Can't you remember the Peaetarian "hoof and hope" style when Tosh was your centre forward.

Absolutely mate, I'm not saying we've always played possession football, far from it, just that we've always generally tried to play football!!

Tosh was a target man yes & we also had another too, Alan Waddle!! But Curtis as a striker, as you well know, was someone who liked to get the ball down & run at defences. With Robbie spraying the ball around or steaming through the middle, I wouldn't say it was all hit & hope!! We had ball playing midfielders through-out that Tosh period, Callaghan, Tommy's Craig & Smith, John Mahoney, Kennedy, Stanley, Robinson & so forth!! So the Swans would certainly have mixed it up in those days. But hit & hope we weren't...... <ok>

I can but we were living a dream back then and it's glossed over, still it was the same with Wales when he was in charge and it was laid bare for what it was! And the fans voted with their feet 60k crowds down to 12k in little over 5-6 years <doh>

R54DJ, I was specifically referring to our present style in my post, the style that has been carefully nurtured for a number of years; a style that is impressing countless journalists, pundits, media people, players and ex players. Yes, we might be a poor man's Barca, or Arsenal (at their best), but we try and play the game the right way, it is what the fans at Swansea expect.

There were distinct similarities between some of Wales' football and the stuff we like to play at Swansea. Other Swansea supporters picked up on it as well and so might you had you watched us regularly. The one comment I would make, though, is that Wales don't do it as well as the Swans do.

    Didnt see the game yesterday.

Wales must have been pretty impressive if they scored 4 playing the Swansea way.

Back 5 passing about to each other for 75% of the game and we bang in 4.

    Impressive stuff.

    Keeper must be tired though.

It's crazy isn't it? Wales scored four playing that way... madness. I mean, we fared so, so badly against much more expensively assembled sides last year, whereas all the teams playing hoofball...

Hang on, wait a minute, I think I've got that the wrong way round!
