... he'll need to improve considerably over his last performance against us if he's going to justify that transfer fee ... Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy made him look very ordinary indeed ... more like a dug up Archduke Ferdinand than the next Rio Ferdinand
Seems a big fee if you ask me. Yeah he's a decent defender, but for a world record fee you would expect to be getting the best defender in the world, or atleast one of, but he's relatively unproven. When we broke the record with Rio, we where getting a proven Champions League and International defender, and a player regarded as up there with the best around. The market has gone mental though, imagine if Maldini was around these days, he'd be worth about 300 million if VVD is worth that.
He wasn't interested mate, you could see he wanted out, not the right way to behave imo but it's done now.
So he's gone onto the pitch with the intention of playing ****e? Surely a player who is hoping for a move to a bigger club would try, to impress clubs interested in buying him. Just like Coutinho, Mahrez and Ozil are now. Didn't he have a poor game when you lot played them this season too? Seem to remember him completely losing his man and leaving Salah clean through on goal. He might have the attributes required to be a top class defender, but the best defenders are always exceptional readers of the game. That's something he clearly needs to work on.
I'm interested to see how he does. He won't be the answer to all of Liverpool's defensive issues but is a class act. Think he will come in for a fair bit of stick though due to the price.
... spot on ... but according to Rimsky and the equally simplistic types ... Mahrez playing rather crap was also because he wanted a move desperately ... Given the first criteria, Coutinho and Salah must be absolutely desperate to get away from Angstfield .... Salah was contentedly non-effectual at Chelsea Mahrez signed a new deal with us just last year ... I would expect some big clubs to come in for him tbh and as long as they stump up the dosh (which must now be £60 million + in this current market) - he'll go with my best wishes and everlasting appreciation of what he did for us - a proper club legend
There **** all spot on about it Fosse. He wasn't happy at Southampton and wanted a move it showed in his performances. I don't think it's right that he did that and he should have given his all right up until he left but he didn't and that's it. We'll see how he does. To start backing some Manc who just hates everything Liverpool shows how much old "Skyrimmer" has got to you.
Don't let the media fool you, he was actually solid for us this year. Not the heights he hit last season before Vardy broke him, but nowhere near as bad as people were making out. That would be the main concern I would have if I were a Liverpool fan, is how badly the injury has effected him or whether it was that he was just coasting through. Lovren was brilliant for us then ****ed his ankle against Sunderland, played a couple more games for us at the end of the season after the injury (iirc) then went to Liverpool and.....well you know the rest.
I watched the last couple of games he played before he was dropped and he looked very disinterested, I don't tend to get sucked into media crap as much as any of us can. As the tranfer window approached he was poor and it looked like he didn't want to play to me, he was then dropped. Lovren was good because of Fonte mate, I know you watch them more than me but I'm certain I'm right there. Lovren needs someone in his ear throughout the match and someone who will cover his stupid ass when he goes off on a wander. I don't think VVD is going to do that and the main men will be Matip and VVD for us.
The "spot on" has nothing to do with the poster's team .... or that he obviously has the ability to wind you and other Liverpool fans up ... just that logic for me is that a player trying to engineer a move would look to impress ... but I also pointed out that certain poster's will take either view if it satisfies an agenda ... hence the Mahrez reference regarding inconsistency of views ... which you have attributed to Skyrimmer... ... in contrast to having 'got to me' it''s just another example of the poor lad's enduring angst at Leicester City having won the title that his own club are still struggling to acheive ... Glad we've cleared that up
Yeah he has me raging on a daily basis. Just because I'm pointing out that he's talking bollox doesn't mean I'm wound up, I'm more in a state of disbelief that some people can be so ****ing stupid.
So his view that players looking for expensive moves are more likely to try and play well than play like they are disinterested is ****ing stupid? .. OK
You maybe right about Fonte, a lot of our fans agree with that and I used to watch a fair bit of Lovren before we signed him when he was at Lyon and he was utter **** there as well. I remember being pretty annoyed when I found out we had signed him. Yes it was obvious Van Dijk wanted to go, but he always looked disinterested in games. Last year the pundits were all having a circle jerk over how easy he made the game look, this year its because he can't be ****ed. I think he was coasting more, but he still wasn't that bad overall. I wonder if Klopp will let him have free roam like when he was at Saints, think David Luiz with his runs up the pitch.
He tried playing well and he was refused a transfer probably thought that he'd try the opposite. Coutinho got "injured" when Barca wanted him I'm sure he was really injured though and that he really wanted to play well to force through a move.
I'm looking forward to him playing for us, looks a very good player. Matip also likes a wander upfield so we'll have to make sure they don't both go on a wander. I suppose we'll always have Moreno to cover for them with his superb reading of the game.
He wasn't trying to 'engineer a move' though He knew he was getting his move and didn't want to **** it up and get injured so he played as safe as he could.
