I watched a game yesterday where the ref gave a penalty against a player who had his back to the ball and it came down on his arm/hand . The player couldn't see the bloody thing and it wasn't checked.

that was an absolute stonewall pen in Europe & has been for years due to the raised arms. Even here it would normally be a pen in the PL .
