Yeah, I was talking late night nightclubs as we know them now. It may have just been the first in Mansfield but I'm sure I recall being told people were coming from other areas to visit. My work mate (41yrs old) was there on opening night.

I know clubs have been around a lot longer. The Palais in Mansfield (closed about ten years ago now) was there when my old man was a lad for example. He's 60 now.

Tbh night clubs are not what they were. They survive on special events that cost them £1000s to put on. Its sad really.

I know of the Casino in Wigan as early as the 70s. Hacienda in Manchester, Angels in Burnley and Carlos II that were all 80ss. Never went. I had Monroes, Maximes, Wigan Pier and the like. All dingy but rammed every week.

All gone now. Burnley, which is the nearest town to me is almost all bordered up. Looks ugly.

Really annoying me that I can't recall its name.

Searching google for it is stupid, just keeps coming up with Jayne Mansfield **** <grr>

Se a story about an old Mansfield club that burnt down last month. Was that it. Didn't name the club though.

Not heard about that

It was called Renaissance so maybe it was the first one of those in the country rather than just the first club of its kind

Edit: sounds like it here...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_(club)

Renaissance is a British electronic dance music club brand and record label. Renaissance was started by Geoff Oakes at Venue 44 in Mansfield, England in 1992. Renaissance was Geoff Oakes' antidote to the sci-fi imagery and dressed down clubbers of the 'rave' scene.[1]

That's 1992. The Wigan Casino was playing Northern Soul in the 70s and house music was breaking into clubs in the late 80s so its certainly not the right one.

In clubbing's peak, full complexes, used to be filled to capacity, 5000+. And those were just the legal ones

Wish I was old enough to have experienced that. My club life was good enough and I have some great memories but just a few years before it was at its peak.

Yeah, as I said, it was probably the first ever Renaissance <ok>

Skrtel made a couple of good challenges / blocks today but overall he was our poorest player. He was involved in the three biggest ****-ups giving Spurs a chance on all three occasions too.

This is Skrtel in a nutshell - he'll f*ck up a lot but will do a couple of good challenges to help mask it.

The good thing now is that he doesn't have Johnson and Lovren next to him as scapegoats so everyone can now actually see how poor he is. Cannot wait for him to finally leave the club - ridiculous that we gave him a new contract in the summer.

Seen both the vids now mate, Sakho heads the ball well, Can does nothing any other Premiership midfielder does on a regular basis. Still see nothing special about either of them.

That's a fair enough assessment for someone who doesn't watch Liverpool regularly. <ok>

Never seen the point in night clubs. Loud crappy music. Over priced drinks. You come out smelling like an ash tray from all the cigarette smoke.

I know men go there to pick up girls but I always found it easier to pick girls up in places where they could hear I have an English accent. They can't hear my accent in a night club. <ok>

Sure your Mrs will be pleased you've been working out best ways to pick up girls <whistle>

Maybe 50 years ago <ok>

When I was 18 it was the last year you could smoke in a pub.

In clubs now you come out smelling of spilt alcohol, sweat, after shave, and if you're lucky, tuna <ok>

For some reason, English accents aren't such a biggy over here.

Well if you managed to get pissed and come back with change after going out with just a tenner, you're either really old and therefore things were a lot cheaper back then or you're a bloody lightweight <laugh>

I'm thirty-four and I can recall doing twenty quid specials (about ten tequila's in a line and a bottle for after) a few times but I wouldn't say I ever came home pissed.
i'm much older than really old then as my first pint in a pub cost the grand total of 29p (being a cheapskate i was in the bar not the "Lounge" where it was an extortionate 30p) so yeah very easy to get pissed on a tenner. I actually swore i'd stop drinking if beer ever became 50p a pint. <cool>
The best though was the Iranian revolution as a brewery sold off cans of lager destined for there at 4p a can . People were turning up to parties with crates of the stuff <cheers><cheers><cheers><cheers>

I can beat you Solid

My first night out was with my brother in law when I was just 17, we went with two of his mates to play snooker in a working mens club. The bitter was 25p/pint (Vauxe's) and I was pissed after 4 pints £1.00 <laugh>

Shall we do the whole of the 4 yorkshireman sketch or just leave it at that <cool>

to be fair the pub wasn't to chuffed when i was seriously pissed one night nearly 3 years later - particularly when they found out it was because i was celebrating my 18th

We are not reliant though. We bought in Benteke and Ings! That's gone well!

Nobody can legislate for injuries, and although I take the piss out of Origi (given the chance) he must have something about him to get in the Belgium squad (they're not short of strikers).
You will be fine in the striking department, midfield I am not so sure.
