Live - Firmino one 50/50 and Ings stumbled more than anything though I did shout for it of course Having seen it since being home - Firmino one seems pretty blatant and Ings one although less blatant, was a penalty judging by previous standards imo. They seem to have given lots of slight clips to the foot/ankle. Yours was one where var wouldn't have overturned if the ref gave it and ours might well have been given if you hadn't of scored.
Both 100% penalties for me. Although I don't think he meant (I think he was trying to play it off the attacker), it was definitely a backpass by Robbo too
If I only cared about the result mate I wouldn't follow Saints Pretty sure I've never seen us win a league match north of London and yeah, we're all allowed to dream but I didn't ever think that was gonna change today.
Klopp mirrors Shankly - best of the stats Only once in English top-flight history has a team had a longer winning streak on home soil - Liverpool themselves between January and December 1972 under Bill Shankly. Liverpool have earned 100 points from the last 102 available to them in the Premier League, winning 33 of their last 34 matches in the competition while only failing to win away at Manchester United in October 2019. Southampton have lost each of their last six Premier League meetings with Liverpool, losing their last three visits to Anfield in the competition by a 10-0 aggregate score. This result was Southampton's heaviest margin of defeat in an away league game since November 2018 when they lost 1-6 at Manchester City. Salah has scored more home goals in this season's Premier League (12) than any other player; indeed, since he joined Liverpool in 2017, only Lionel Messi (51) has more home goals in Europe's big-five leagues than the Egyptian (44).
Was said earlier. The more i see Alisson play, the more that I think that he is every bit as important as Virgil in that defence. The guy is immense and has super glue hands.
Perhaps we’ve gotten used to dodgy keeping but it’s no coincidence that since we’ve bought a world class keeper, we’ve been challenging at the very top.
And, just like VVD, he makes it look effortless too. That is an enormous psychologically advantage in itself
Game of two halves but just shows you how easily we can switch between the gears when we need to. Salah has really stepped up now and finding his form, which is great to see. We march on.
From the ref's point of view, I can only think that he thought that Firmino wasn't getting the ball anyway, and that Ings was going down before the contact and was looking for it. Either could have been given, imo - just depends on the ref's interpretation. As both you and I are rather unconvinced by the whole principle of VAR, I think we just accept the ref's decisions unless they're blatantly and categorically wrong. He was wrong about the back pass. I was annoyed at that - you should have had a free-kick from the edge of the 6-yard box, and we'd have probably scored with a breakaway from it.
For a complete impartial view on the major incidents. Backpass - I actually think Robertson tried to kick it off the attacker to get a goal kick. With how tight the space was and players around them, I just can't see why he would pass it to Alisson, there was no room for it. Firmino penalty - He was never getting on the end of the cross and threw himself down a bit, not a penalty Ings penalty - He stutters under the first tackle and is completely off balance, Fabinho then sticks his leg out again and it looks obvious. Just watch a view from the goal side and his leg never connects and Ings just can't get his balance from the first tackle. No penalty On a side note, we were shocking in the first half, Fabinho again giving the ball away constantly. Fortunately we sorted it out at half time.
