However, if there's no way he would ever fit Klopp's style then why would they even look at him in the first place? They must have known his playing style before taking any interest, so perhaps Klopp isn't so averse to the target man approach as is made out?

Origi is young, and so I'd imagine potential is what people saw and wanted to get him before the price shot up. It's a gamble, some come off, an awful lot don't.

It's up next summer. I like him- always felt like he was the left wing equivalent of Finnan - unspectacular but dependable.

Yes he is young but should surely be showing more signs of his potential than he currently is. Lots of players younger than him at least give you glimpses. As a striker he should be exciting to watch, he isn't and doesn't look to have the footballing intelligence that goes with his position.

Origi is highly rated around Europe. He was shortlisted for the European golden boy award the sane year Sterling won it.

I presume klopps likes him because a) he's talented, b) adapts to klopps style and c) young enough to be coached.

I think the lad has shown a willingness to change. Ok the shot v spurs might have been fluke and the run was a one off but it was the type of run klopp wanted. I thin kthe boy is not ready but he has a lot more about him than n'dog ever did <whistle> I don't think he is ready for the prem frankly and would not go sticking him in much but i think he's done well in some roles he's been asked to do for the team.

give klopp 3 years and he'll turn him into a big name like he did with the other two aforementioned dortmund players... just not this season. time is needed

Clubs scout hundreds of players, several times. Seeing a player live is different to on screen which is why they wanted to take a look at him and make sure before pursuing.

They took one look at him and realised he has nothing about his game other than as a target man, and he's not been proven wrong since.

The things like his off the ball running has changed quite a bit which is very encouraging.

He's very raw and we can't be relying on him. Hopefully we sign someone in January.

thats true but also supposition thereafter about benteke... simply put you cannot know bar what klopp himself said.

all clubs need to look at guys live. need to see them walk off the bus, how do thy look with their team mates, how do they warm up, etc etc etc so many things to build a picture of the whole player that a video cannot do.

a guy can be sullen and moody around his team mates and knock in a hat trick for his team and then be bought for big money if not, usually they don't then react well to being a small fish.

so here is the actual statements:

    Klopp this week only

“Of course Christian Benteke didn’t do so well, but I’d say like a few players who were not in their best shape on this day at Newcastle,” Klopp said.

“It was not a problem of Christian Benteke, it was a problem of our game in common.

“Yes, of course, I think he can press. The number nine doesn’t have to defend the whole pitch, it is to close spaces.

“It is not a question of Christian Benteke, he has done very good for us.

“It is okay – it is not a problem. Just on Sunday it was.”

    Klopp after bordeaux

Klopp said: “It was a very important goal for him. When I came here he was injured. I know a lot about Christian because when he was at Aston Villa we [Borussia Dortmund] were interested in him, everyone was interested.

“A brilliant player but like everyone else if you are injured and come back everyone thinks you now have to be the Christian Benteke that he has shown before straight away. Each person needs time so he can get better, better, better. He worked hard against Bordeaux but we did not play too often in this formation so it was not easy for him and Roberto [Firmino] to close the lines. It wasn’t perfect but with time they can get better and better.”

Klopp drew parallels to the careers of Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, two strikers he brought to Dortmund and who lead the Bundesliga goalscoring chart with 14 and 15 goals respectively, Lewandowski now being at Bayern Munich. The German coach believes there is a marked contrast between the development time afforded in the Bundesliga and Premier League.

“I can tell you I am not sure that Robert Lewandowski could have developed into the Robert Lewandowski of today in England because no one is patient enough to wait for this,” he said. “He made seven goals in his first year and I don’t know what you would say about him if he made seven goals in one year and played all the time. ‘Not good enough, come on, sell him!’ Aubameyang needed three years for his performance at the moment, so sometimes you have to work together. It is very important in football.

“There is no doubt about the quality of all the strikers we have, no doubt at all. Now we have to help them to show it better and better. A striker more than any player needs the help of the rest of the team. They cannot take the ball and go through and make a goal so they need fine-tuned football, played here, played there, crosses, whatever – give them the ball in the right area. That is what we try and do but there is no doubt to the quality.”

    ............................

    benteke himself:

It helps that the new man at the helm, Klopp, is a confirmed admirer. The German has made a big impact on the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers, restoring confidence levels while getting his message across. Had things worked out differently, Benteke could have signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2013 when Klopp was in charge.

'It was after my first year at Aston Villa,' Benteke explains. 'My agent and the manager had a meeting about maybe doing a transfer but nothing happened. But it doesn't matter that he tried to sign me before. Liverpool are a massive club and you have to fight for your place. It isn't easy.'

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-t-matter-manager-tried-sign-fight-place.html

they might have signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan for €25M and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for 13M. in 2013 benteke would have cost 25mil sterling.

If they made a direct choice and went for Aubameyang then fine they had mr Lewandowski and bough in the kid for less... that would also make sense.

    ......................................................................................................

you tell me..... everyone was interested.. who knows why no bid.. I don't.... in the end Klopp is on benteke's side and i'll predict he starts v west brom.

It will be up to benteke to follow the game plan laid down by klopp and if he does that and does the right things the we will see. If he doesn't then he won't play I think thats as simplae as it can be put

Yep, in terms of numbers, we have a lot but Sturridge nor Benteke are reliable from a physical aspect, Ings out until next year and Origi is raw.

Ideal solution is to buy someone who can play up front and out wide. Leroy sane, Volland, Lacazette are my options.

We have a lot of tricky little players - but we need some speed and direct running to get defenders worried.

Yes, it is a concern but i suppose better than selling keane in 2009 when we only have n'dog to cover torres who was bound to be injured.

I would agree on pace, what we want is pace that knows where the danger is and its never back to goal type play.
