Smith hasn't really been tested defensively, but he gets in decent crosses and gets them in early- something none of the others seem able or willing to do. However, its effectiveness relies on us getting people into the box quickly enough to benefit, something else we don't do a lot of.
the thing is manquillo is all but worthless to an english side as he was nothing special and randal has that special merit badge called HG. he'll just end up a squadie as they are needed. thems the rules. I remember stephen darby being a local lad, right back and rafa dumping him, barely made one error but now HG is so hard to acheive the bar is lower for them. Plus klopp knows he'll get the work out of them.
yup. you need the same level of urgency from the midfield to get in there and klopp is worring on the runs people make but i think we have certain guys who don't make enough. in fairness to lallana he does make them.. as proved by the amount of times he gets done offside after switching off and not getting back onside. ... a back handed compliment there from me to the hair.
I'm not a Lallana fan but at least he fits our style to some degree. The midfield is horrendous. Apart from Can, the rest need to be nothing more than just squad players. Serious upgrades needed.
If we went for Plan B for Benteke, then we could do with Smith slinging them in for him. Moreno can put in a decent cross, but wants to beat his full back three times before he gets round to it. Sod all of this getting Benteke to run around business- just let him do a bit of goal-hanging and throw some crosses in. One is bound to bounce in off him now and again.
Klopp wants to Instill a style of play. If he just resorts to slinging the ball in to Benteke, then it defeats the purpose. This is a long term plan. Klopps style and philosophy will last for years. Benteke will be lucky if he's here beyond next summer.
That's why I called it a Plan B- I'm not suggesting we go for that style of play. If you're going to play Benteke at all, then play to his strengths. It's pointless expecting him to be a mobile striker in the Sturridge mode - although he does have the advantage of being on the pitch now and again.
Ah sorry, misread you! Yep - agreed, use him a plan B. I suppose Klopp is trying to see if Benteke can adapt. Whilst I'm not expecting him to change his style overnight, I expected better from him.
His crossing does look very good but you are right to point out he does it early, that's the key. You don't need to beat a man before putting the ball in. Often, when you do beat a man first, the defence are back and set so they can attack the ball facing away from their goal. Putting the ball in early often sees the defence a little higher so they have to defend facing their own goal. Makes a massive difference. Crossing early also gives the crosser a much bigger target area to aim for too.
I've been quite impressed with the guy - going forward at least- in what little we've seen of him so far. Obviously he needs sterner tests of his defensive capabilities before I'll start eulogising, but Klopp seems to see something in him as he's given him a couple of games.
Yep, I've been more impressed with Smith than Randall, although Randall has had tougher tests. Would save us money if they can continue to develop. Full back areas are very light atm. Safe to say Enrique won't be here for much longer.
We'll have to find him before we can get rid. I liked Enrique when he first joined us, but he's become a standing joke now.
You seemed to be suggesting his style won't fit Klopp's style but having already looked at him, it must have been something other than his style that put Dortmund off surely?
klopp himself said "we looked at him but he was too expensive" thats not no thats we can't afford. We should say that its not very long ago dortmund failed to pay players and bayern bailed them out. they could not afford either origi or benteke according to klopp and they dealt in buying cheap. So lets just be fair all round. Klopps comment son benteke now can be seen as: a) saying the player is indeed good and in fact he knows he was good having tracked him for years or b) just backing his player klopp is pretty honest, open and straight forward. If he thinks a guy is ****e he will drop him i think.
see my post. When you have lewandowski for 4mil and then Aubameyang at 13mil euros and both are developed (rememebr milan dumped Aubameyang for 4mil to st. etienne) then why by a 25mil player form england? dortmund have excellent scouting systems. end of. they would have had benteke and origi and lukaku and 20 others on their radar and they will seek value. the one criticism i will accept of benteke is his injury record is at best mixed and that would put me off and honeslty LFc piad through the nose for him
I agree with all of that. However, based on the same principles, I'm not sure what he sees in Origi - he's been very unconvincing.
