Jurgen Klopp opted to take the heat off his Liverpool players ahead of Saturday’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid in Kiev.

The Reds will have their work cut out to beat the defending champions, who have won the competition for the last two years, and Klopp was looking to take more responsibility when he spoke at his press conference ahead of the game.

He said: “I am responsible for the defeats. The boys are responsible for all the things we win.

“If we don’t win I can respond to that, 100%. We’ve spoken about all the things but at the end, the main message is all the things we’ve worked on, since we were together, are made for being used in a game like tomorrow.

“It’s all about football. I think most of the players will be nervous. It’s a normal feeling, then do what you do best. Play football. Fight with your mates. Shoot, cross, make headers, bicycle kicks.”

The Anfield chief also praised the character and spirit of his side ahead of the game in which around 2,000 tickets could be available on the black market, adding: “The spirit. 100%

“We were already a good team. We dreamed of being in a final but it’s only happened because of the performances through different games.

“That created a special spirit. Now we’re here. It’s our greatest strength, for sure.”

Klopp also informed the media the media that they are welcome to watch Liverpool’s training session at the stadium, before joking: “That was not my idea, by the way!”

I wasn't overly confident about this game anyway but since funding out that Salah and Mane are fasting atm, I think we have very little chance now.

Fasting if you're a professional athlete doesn't count, they are allowed to eat especially as it's a final.

I don't know the exact details but this dude does @thefanwithnoname

"Muslim footballers who face the challenge of delivering a top sporting performance no longer have to fast during Ramadan. The German Central Council of Muslims has issued a fatwa which allows them to eat before sunset. "

^^Just a quick search but it was discussed in length on another thread fairly recently
