McCunty says City dominated for 85 minutes, should have had 3 penalties, and Fernandinho should have been awarded a negative yellow card for fair play https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45696346
astro often has a rather novel interpretation of the things he reads. However, McNutty did write this: "City were the better side, but neither was able to produce the decisive moment." - which I think is inaccurate.
I thought City had more of the passing, were more of a threat...just. But we did pose a threat when we attacked too. Overall a fair result although Mahrez and Pep will be kicking themselves for not putting more daylight between us via that pen. I also thought that Mahrez does not improve their team. He may be a threat in set plays but he runs into blind alleys and lose the ball on a regular basis.
They had (very) slightly more possession, we had more shots overall and an equal number on target. Neither keeper was seriously threatened, so I don't think anyone can say either side was better.
It could have been worst if we lost. The positive side is that we are on thesame points as city. We are out of one cup competition already, and we need to win something this season.
So Pep apologised to Gabriel Jesus for not letting him take the penalty yesterday. Big ****ing deal, like there was no chance of him missing it or the keeper saving it. Every manager could make the same lame excuse if one of their players fails to score from the spot.
It’s a big compliment when Pep goes conservative. Ironically, if he went in with his normal approach, i reckon he would have got the 3 points. Whilst our performances haven’t been great of late, we’ve had a horrible set of fixtures and yet, we’re joint top of the league without getting out of second gear. It says a lot about we’ve matured as a team because previously when our attack didn’t perform, we’d often lose matches. With ‘easier’ fixtures coming up, I would like to see others getting more mins in particular Keita and fabinho because our midfield needs more. Keita is a strange one because he looked really good when he first came but has since regressed. Shaqiri will be itching for more minutes as well.
1. vvd... he's holding the side together. seriously he's just about stopping everything near him. 2. alisson. nothing comes off him, holds everything. he's learned his lesson big style.it seems. 3. salah. anyone saying he needs a rest...I dunno.. surely people.can see he is making runs and working hard? the chances are not coming cos he are not creative. 4...Milner.. we all knew he was used up in league cup and game after game. 5. Keita clearly.not fit. also his stamina is lacking currently. serious work needed there to adapt. we all should have known preseason day 1. fabinho and kieta fell out early and Milner trashed everyone.
VVD played well but made a rash tackle that could have lost us a point and given City a lead on us. Salah is really having a bad time. If he had been his last season self we would have been top of the league on our own and not third. He needs to be dropped for his own sake (Klopp can dress it up as give him a much needed rest ) Interestingly the bookies are not giving equal or similar odds to the 5 teams bunched up at the top. They still make LFC and City clear favourites ahead of the other 3. The mancs are not given any chance and cannot even hope to finish above us.
and how many brilliant decisions and tackles, headers and organisational moments did VVD deliver? For that matter people were on lovren's back.. oh look lovrens's panicked again as somehow a hand that Atkinson waves off (that mancs seem to think is a clear pen) He made several key tackles as well. then for salah, how many times did he fight mendy? how many breaks and runs did he make only to see team mates fluff their lines. He got a half chance early in game that you'd want to be looking for a worldie. he missed target fair neough but at least he got there. Second half he got one making a great run but had to take it again on vaolley as he'd no support. Goes high and wide... thats poor? thats yer dropped? for me. I am seeing at best a 3 man press.. at best. When theres no midfielder helping our guys are getting passed through by city. After 20mins milner dropped off even. then theres **** all forward ball coming to them either. In short the front 3 are being starved, especially of quick ball. IMO nobody "needs a rest" we need a midfield. windy and henderson... almost assured ball is going sideways or back after 5 minutes of slow decision making. maybe windy might pass it after running 30 yards across the pitch or turning about 5 times. Maybe henderson might stop hiding behind silva for a couple of times and not panic he's got to now do something with it and actually play a positive pass.... maybe. LFC now have 6 no 6's including fabinho and only milner and kieta and positive midfielders who can turn on ball, neither is fit. Lallana is boned also. This is where IMO 90% of our problems lie.
