Aguero's goal was a top strike, but should he have had the chance to get the shot in? Would VvD have allowed him to do that?......................probably not
Probably not, but where can we get the mirror image Virgil from? Lovren certainly isn't it, neither is Matip. Gomez is the only one good enough to maybe reach that standard. We'll have to see. I said before the game that almost anything could happen - the one thing I didn't expect was for us to meekly surrender possession as much as we did.
This We got caught up in the hysteria and hype. If we (Klopp) had the courage of playing our own game we would have won. They worked hard but their usual fluidity wasn’t there or their confidence as it was low from three defeats in 4 matches. As I said earlier, our negativity helped them and even then we nearly got something from the game. I said before the match it was a free shot for us as even a defeat keeps us ahead by 4 points. So why didn’t we attack them as they were there for the taking?
Gomez is deffo our best option to play alongside VvD, he looks very promising. I still think we need better than Lovren, not sure on Matip
Matip is a good option but he's not a starting CB, Lovren has simply got to go - not to the required standard Gomez was doing great till injury so that's just a bummer, and he's still very young which is both a positive and a negative
Seen the odd clip flying around of our goal. About 20 pass, switch play about 4 times, players dribbling past city, final great cross pass and goal. Fantastic stuff. Didn't really appreciate it at the time
Dribs posted it on another thread. I only noticed how tense that game was that this passage of play was missed by most. Another sequence that needs highlighting was the chance Mane missed. The build up was absolutely brilliant.
I just have to highlight one aspect however. Its not the 20 passes nor a few of the switches. the reality is most of that wasn't under any real pressure. the ball is gotten out to TAA in a deepish full back position. Our right wing outlet. Normal practice = cut back. TAA looks up, turns onto his LEFT foot and delivers that inch perfect ball to robertson. whatever about anything else that's a sensational bit of skill thats gone utterly unappreciated IMO.
Yeah in the moment didn’t teally appreciate it, other than Trent’s cross to Robbo but the build up play before that was very very good. Shame it got lost in the whole result
It was great football and it stemmed from Fabinho. Players playing quickly and positively. That’s what we need from our midfielders
