I've yet to see a single neutral think it wasn't a red. <laugh>.

High boot, studs out like that (and yes against a keeper, which probably shouldn't make a difference, but we all know it does) I can't see any ref not giving a red for that.

Well it did kill the game off. It probably shouldn't have, but it certainly did. The game was very close before that.

I don't think the most optimistic city fan would have bet his life savings on a win before the red. We were still in it, even if at a disadvantage.

The red hit us worse than it would other teams for several reasons.

    1) it was our best player.
    2) we were set up to attack. We didn't have the defensive capability to switch.
    3) not only were we set up to attack, we were set up to attack down two flanks with speed. We didn't have a capable alternative. The whole plan had to be ripped up.
    4) I think seeing what happened to City's keeper put a mental damper on the whole team.

Getting a red and being a man down wouldn't normally lead to losing 5-0, but I'm more beat up about losing our best player for two games than I am about the one scoreline.

It was a loss... They happen, this was worse than most, but I'm not concerned.

I think taking Salah off was a huge tactical blinder though tbh.

    I personally dont.
When you accept the fact good or bad that we are an attacking team and not remotely good at defending under sustained pressure ..against a team that loves having and shifting the ball to tire the opponent out, being 1 down, 10 men...na...sorry we can't have it both ways ...why wreck or risk injury on our only other match fit why with pace when everyone and his dog knows we wouldn't win at that point.

Now...criticism for Klopp going into a new season knowing his backs are ****e, his midfield tactically and mentally weak? That's different.

    Learnings from today's game:
    1. City will not win the league with a defence like that
    2. Nor will we, obviously
    3. Only one of our back line is good enough
    4. TAA is not quite ready and was got at easily
    5. We still need a CB - klavan <yikes>
    6. Salah is great but very wasteful (give him time)
    7. All Our midfielders are like headless chickens
    8. We lack leadership on the pitch
There's probably more but I'm off out to get sh*tfaced....

Saw the end, there 4th & 5th goals. Can't remember us touching the ball in all the time I watched. Red card or no, its an embarrassment, other teams suffer Red cards and don't fold like Superman on laundry day like we looked to have done today.

P.S. ****ing international breaks destroying all momentum. Internationals should be played out of season.

It obviously did. It's quite clear that it was a different game after the card to that which had gone before. Nobody is using it as an excuse, lame or otherwise, just a statement of fact.
Yes, teams get reds and don't concede 5, but each game is different and has to be looked at individually. Do you think we'd give away 5 against...let's say West Brom for instance?
We can't defend, we know that, and we play to win by outscoring the opposition. Losing Mané put paid to that, and we were left trying to defend against a very dangerous attacking side.
A lesson learned? Well maybe, but not one we'll get much mileage out of, as those circumstances are unlikely to repeat very often.

In summary, it did kill the game but it shouldn't have.

Massacre. Not one player comes out of it with any credit. Maybe Migs, and maybe Moreno will think that for once he was one of our better, or least worst, players. I've never seen Matip play so bad, and I realise he has a one-in-ten shocker in him. As for that 'captain'.... well, when you have one man less it is even more important to pass the ball to a team mate. Abysmal.
